I understand the definition of delusions, but can someone give me examples? I think I have had them, but they seem subtle, like I think, "How is that a delusion?" It always seems sensible to me.

My delusion was that I believed that I was going to solve environmental issues with quantum physics. I was doing my science degree at the time so don't know if it was a "clinical" delusion, more an overactive mind?
Hopefully someone has more answers babe...... ![]()

What about things like quitting my job to get trained as a yoga instructor so that I can open a studio and become a famous and well-known yoga instructor? or taking out a large loan to go to massage therapy school so that I can become rich by opening my own business, or thinking that my college boyfriend who had graduated and lived two hours away was probably visiting his ex who lived on campus and spending hours looking out the window for her so that I could tell if she had been with him, or catch him there with her?
These are from my past, but I just want to be able to recognize them so that I can tell myself that I am having a delusion before I do serious damage. |

I've told my therapist, but I am still waiting to get some meds at the pdoc. Appointment is in June.
These are things I have done in the past. I just want to recognize the behaviors. |

For me delusions were believing things that were not true & being suspicious & paranoid. Like I thought my husband was trying to poison me & I was overdosing (trying to kill myself) & thought he WANTED me to kill myself.
I thought he was following me, watching me, somehow plotting against me... Abilify took that delusional thinking away. Was on Abilify for 12 yrs. but unfortunately gained 50 lbs. on it so now have high cholesterol, blood pressure & blood sugar so am on meds for them & have had to get off Abilify. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (group/class) plus indiv. therapy is helping me a lot to keep my thoughts in control & keep me thinking rationally. Still on a bunch of meds, of course. Haven't had an overdose in 2 1/2 yrs. & when I have paranoid thoughts I can analyze them & work through them in a few days & not let them escalate. I think recognizes them & having insight is terribly important. I thought that my delusional thoughts were real until I got on Abilify. I couldn't shake the thoughts that my husband was "after me." But the most important thing is to tell EVERYTHING to your mental health providers (meds provider & therapist--of course I'm assuming you trust them whole heartedly & have a collaborative relationship w/them) so they can address all your symptoms w/meds or therapy. |

. I am a mom of a Bipolar 1 ultra rapid cycler w/ psychotic episodes. After getting through all the medical terminology, I found memoirs of others to be very helpful for me and my daughter.. Just the other day I began reading a book called, I just want my daughter back by B C Levinson that I got on Amazon. It really is a great story about a mothers experiences with her daughters bipolar disorder. It is really inspiring me to keep my chin up and stay strong for my daughter who has bipolar 1. It has also helped her see more clearly some of the things that she is doing are signs to listen too. At some point you have to accept that you are not always the best judge of what's real.. Find that person that can help keep you straight.. Just a thought. Take care & hang in there...

im schizoaffective and bipolar. and i have a couple delusions. one of them is me thinking that people can hear my thoughts. so now i have trained my self not to think around people. untill the thoughts of them thinking they can read my thoughts start then i become paranoid. and im paranoid. but thats another story. ive thought this for 7 years. i would look around the class room and people would stare at me. and id stop thinking or think too much. and so its a delusion

The only time I'm sure I was delusional was one night when I felt everything wasn't real and was expecting to wake up strapped to a hospital bed with a doctor leaning over me with a loaded syringe. Hope this helps hun.
