Was reading a thread here somewhere about someone who had facial ticks and maybe it was caused by feelings of anger that were not discharged. The build up of lactic acid and what not...

I was thinking of that and my wife's back..She invariably has to stretch her back at different times. I noticed before she went to hospital she was stretching that back out constantly..not just every night. Like every hour or two..Had never seen her like that.. ANd every night she was donig that for may be an hour...

There is stretching and then there is stretching; it seemed to me she was doing much more stretching than a normal athlete does. SHe was a very good athlete in school and when she runs she will stretch and warm down for may be 10 min+ . Nothing like an hour..

I was thinking it was stress and anxiety. Even her mother noticed that every time she has had a breakdown or something emotional it's her back that starts to act up. Back in 1996 before I knew her she said that she had some reaction to medicine given for her back and that is what landed her in hosp.

Rather than anxiety I am wondering if it is really anger? She was so working that back for weeks before she went to hosp. in APril..And she had been in a sour mood for months, just always criticizign never any fun at all.

We saw her yesterday, she is in a halfway house after getting out of hosp. She was waiting for us outside and she was still stretching; stretching a lot. She hadnt seen me or our daughter for five days so I guess she was nervous..

But boy that anger thing really struck a chord with me. What do others think?

Yes very true, easygoer.......the correlation between adrenal excess and muscle tightness/ spasm........I get in in my calves!

There are other reasons it could be.......hormones(has your wife gone through menopause or is in perimenopause?), medication side-effects, magnesium deficiency, fibromyalgia, arthritis, constipation/ Irritable bowel syndrome, scoliosis(curvature of the spine) or pelvic rotation to name a few......

has she had complete physical in hospital? How old is she and, if you don't mind, what was she dx with?

It could be all psychological with physiological response......or......it is physiological and she is having a psychological response. I was misdx with Bipolar in 2007 and medicated......only to find out 4 months ago I was in perimenopause and that is what was making me so ill.......yep, hormones are the true keepers of the gate. If you wish to talk more about this, feel free to ask......

Hope that helps, babe.......take care and we are here.....

Perimenopause is the precursor to menopause.....some women get symptoms, some barely feel a thing. I was 31 when my symptoms started. Interesting about the Bipolar dx. How old is she?

here is a link for symptoms......

http://www.project-aware.org/Experience/symptoms.shtml

Derealisation and depersonalization are also often experienced by women and in severe cases, psychosis-like symptoms and dissociation.......hope that helps.....Thyroid disfunction can also cause problems......there are stats to support that people with hypothyroidism are often misdx bipolar. Does she have a family history of Bipolar?

Just a feeling mind you.......a full hormone blood panel might be in order as well as thyroid just to be on the safe side......eostrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, androstenedione, cortisol, ACTH, TSH, T4, T3, thyroid antibodies......to name a few. She is 39 which is very a very possible age for perimenopause......some women go into menopause at this age!

Don't be surprised if the blood levels come back "within range" for eostrogen. It is not conclusive. Does she get any other symptoms like on the list on that link I gave you? Is she on medication for the Bipolar and it is not making a scrap of difference to how she feels? Does she have a competent psychiatrist or psychologist? The facial tick you speak of.......i get that too and so do many other peri or meno women.

I am not saying that this is the answer, but I am suspicious of this sudden onset of bipolar at this stage in her life(not saying that 39 year old women don't get it, but very rare, especially with no family history of the disorder).

You take care.......

it is not sudden onset. She has been hospitalized 4 times, since 1996. WHen I said "history" above I meant in terms of family history. I really dont know of any but it's not like the family is open about anything. She has definitely a history of landing in the hospital.
