Interesting... I can choose to be different, and not to belong, and even to define myself as nothing at all; and as long as I'm any (or all) of those ways by choice, it's in no way a problem for me.

I'd guess, then, that when you feel like you're different, or don't belong, or need to ask what you are, it seems not to be by choice and that's what makes it a problem for you?

I've found, though, that when other people tell me what I am it's not at all satisfying for me unless I've already said that that's what I am, too, and now I'm looking for validation for it. Well, I guess occasionally someone will beat me to it and give me the idea that I might be something or other, and then I'll go see if anyone else agrees.

The way I seem to prefer finding out who I am, is by what I can do and what kind of effect I seem to have on other people. I may or may not ever come up with names for what I find out about myself.

I don't know whether this sheds light on any of your questions. If darkness, I hope it's at least interesting darkness.
Thanks for this!

Sometimes being different is a good thing and it means you're special and unique. When I was a child I was so shy I didn't feel like I belonged either. I think people like this are more sensitive people that's all. I remember in highschool, the cool crowd was mean and I didn't want to be a part of them anyways. Hope you feel better.

You understand what I'm saying... yes, I am very shy but I still need people to want me... I'm just so sick of my feelings, everything hurts me and I'm tired of it.
