Godawful parents.....

Well hello, lovelies.......

Just had to share this tidbit with you......

For those of you that know me, I am wholly accepting and understanding of the concept that people do not GET it.......that often they will look at you strangely or be openly hostile and you may experience isolating discrimination as I did......or the idea is too abhorrent or it is totally out of scope with peoples beliefs......

My partner and I have decided that in 10 years we are going to the Antarctic to work(they have the internet there so I can still talk to my friends!). I have always wanted to go.......so when my health is better and my son can look after himself(he will be 25 by then) we are packing up to go and study Antarctic wildlife on base camps and he will work on machinery(he is a mechanic by trade). I want to get a job in the lab. I have always wanted to go.......desperately!!

My main concern is that one of the requirements is psychometric testing by the Australian Department of Defense. I wonder how deep they will go in my psych history.......easy enough to find out. My psych history may effect my eligibility, only becuase it is an incredibly hostile environment with many risks and once you are in, you cannot get off the ice until summer. They need to know that they are not putting you at risk along with the others that work alongside you.......we shall see.

I explained my concerns to my mother.......this is a clincher! She replied....

"Oh that was wrong, stupid dx, BPD...... what does that mean anyway? It was just all about you BEHAVING BADLY"

My God.......she still doesn't get it.......after 15 years. I laughed my head off. She asks what I am laughing about and that it isn't funny. I just looked at her calmly and said "Well, we are all entitled to our own opinion". Yes, people are regulated in psych hospitals and plugged full of mood stabilisers and anti-psychotics due to "bad behaviour" all the time.......what a ridiculously idiotic thing to say.......can't win 'em all !!

I am still laughing my guts out at the stupidity and total lack of respect of her statement....... I pity her.......I really do....

Wow! The Antarctic, you are brave! I hate cold weather lol, but minus the coldness i think it would be a beautiful place to visit . Dont you just love how parents always have the right thing to say? (me being sarcastic lol) i hope you pass all your tests with flying colours so you have the chance to fulfill one of your dreams. On the plus side at least you have ten years to convince them to let you go :P good luck

Your Mom's ridiculous perspective would infuriate me (my Mom is the same way), so I have a long way to go! You go girl!

10 years is a long time to continue. I think that you'll be just fine. Sounds like you are really looking forward to the experience, and that's great. Nice to have realistic, pleasant goals to work towards.
