GREAT IN BED
A lady, desparate for companionship, took out an add in the local newspaper . It read "I need a man who won't beat me up, won't run away with other women , but hes gotta be great in bed." The next day the door bell rang and she found a quaudrapaligic on her door step. "You have no arms" she said he answered "I won't beat you" "You have no legs" she protested... He said "I won't run away with other women." Embarassed she inquired " how can you be in be great in bed?" His answer . "I rang the door bell didn't I?" ********************************************************* This joke was posted on a support forum for those who were in a relationship with someone who had BPD. And a friend of the person who posted the joke , was newly diagnosised with PPS. And they knew it . PPS is Post polio syndrome which effects the muscles and nerves , a kin to ALS and MS in some of it progression . Patricia |

It is isn't it. ![]() People with BPD have a fear of abandonment . The suttle insinuations of posting this joke go pretty far . It is also funny too. And its has a very sexual graffic leading. One joke with so many facets. So many "hooks" Patricia |

Its an evaluation of a poster in a specific place which incited more coments and jeers about a population from others . You would have had to be there . I was. and the intent of its placement was not funny. I just needed to share . to get the poison of this person out. Patricia |

In another forum that I go to there (not a mental health one) is a thread about pervs, one of the men there made a joke which he and some (not all) thought was funny it was ....
At least pervs unlike others abide by the speed limit at schools and slow down. I bad repped him and he complained to me saying I had no sense of humour ! We argued in pm for a bit but in the end I told him this is not up for discussion as he could not change my mind. I felt he either had bad taste or that he was a perv himself. That didnt go down too well .... We are now not talking. |

I can't remember the author who came up with the term "hurt seeking missle" but that is what I thought when I heard about the circumstances around this joke. It sounded like someone didn't have the empathy or the heart to steer away from the area. How low. In another context it would have been funny, but that was not rreally how it seems to have been meant.

Tragedy and comedy are but two aspects of what is real, and whether we see the tragic or the humorous is a matter of perspective.
- Arnold Beisser, Author In the instance you described above, and if I read it right, it sounds like the person with PPS was using his tragedy to provide humour to the person with BPD. Having BPD myself, I thought the joke quite funny, but it was perceived in a way that lightens the burdens of tragedies that both of these individuals deal with. But as we can see by the responses, not everyone's perception is in sync (or timed well). Y'all might find this joke funny tomorrow...
