Diagnosed with BPD for a while (no need to explain all over again) and I need your support. Currently still off sick (long term sick leave and soon to be redundant by the end of March 2010) my manager have kept pressurised by asking if I could return to work asap also got an appt to see Health Worker (Occupational Health Dept) to see if I'm fit for work or not. My mind is all over the places at the mo. Your suggestions or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks for this!

Hi lou99pop,

My answer depends upon what your job is, where, and what your abilities are. I know that employers are always anxious to get us either back to work or out of the company. They hate being in limbo.

If you are emotionally (or physically) unable to work, and can't stand the thought of returning to work, you may want to discuss (partial or permanent) disability with your doctor. Social Security will require all records from all doctors be shared, in order to make a decision on your application. Almost all cases are initially denied. Then, one needs an attorney to appeal their decision. Some people have to appeal a few times before finally being approved. Social Security is a long and bumpy road, but it can help in many ways.

I hope that I've helped in some way. Best wishes to you!

Thanks Shezbut for your advise. I work with NHS and the job is very demanding, emotional draining and occassionally have been harrassed/bullied by other 2/3 members of staff also I had been operated twice recently, including announcement of redundancy issues. My negative thoughts are exaggerating everyday, which I don't want to admit to hospital and facing them with their queries about my thoughts and other stuff too. Social Security here is a bit different from USA, I will ask my welfare rights officer soon to get help, that's the first step that I'm going do it, thanks for your tip.
Thanks for this!

Michah, I live in UK, I have just been contacted with a welfare rights officer recently and she has helped out with my disability benefit issues so I'm waiting to hear from the panel within 11 weeks as the process of disability benefit is already in action after they received the letter from the welfare rights officer. Thanks for your offer to help me.

Dear Holmes,

I appreciate your help with ideas/suggestions, many thanks. I have an appt to see Occupational Health Worker on the 4th Jan to see if I'm ready to return to work soon or not and the letter from my manager stating that I should be ready to go back to work soon but will have to see Occup. Health Worker first. I knew myself that I'm not ready to go back to work soon and feel helpless about it also don't know what I'm going to answer the Health Worker's questions, maybe should I bring my friend for moral support?

Lou
