I read the symptoms of BPD on the forum and it fits me perfectly. I feel lost, guilty and helpless. I push away people who love me, other times I'm needy of them. I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Is BPD just an offshoot of bipolar disorder? I'm confused.

Hi hartbroken

Im really sorry your feeling so confused, this must be a really difficult time for you. BPD is a controversial diagnosis - its a disorder thats not easy to diagnose but its certainly not uncommon for people with BPD to have other illnesses, i myself have OCD but since i was 15 i got told i had everything from psychotic depression to GAD. If your feeling unsure of what might be truly wrong, why not explain your concerns to your doctor and ask whether you current symptoms might need to be assessed. You might then be able to access some DBT and start feeling better. Remember though, feeling ill can make us feel like we need other people more than usual and at other times like we just want to be alone and away from it all. Just be kind and patient with yourself, these things sometimes take a while to become clear. Good luck, pm me anytime you need to chat.
