I have never gone to a psychiatrists office before, I literately have no clue what to expect from this initial meeting. I don't want to psych myself out and not go but at the same time I have this need to know at least what it is going to be like so I can mentally prepare myself for it. I am probably making a mountain out of a molehill, I realize that, but any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The first time they just ask you stuff. Like where you're from, where you live...how many people are in your family. If you're married our not...your family background with all types of illness. They might ask you why you think you need to be there, and what you think is going on...trust me...that all takes up the whole hour you get the first time! LOL Nothing to worry about at all.

Depends.

Were you referred for a specific service (e.g., diagnosis, medication consultation, psychotherapy)?

I only had 10 minutes with my pdoc the first visit and 5 minutes each additional time.. but that's just my experience.

I am not sure exactly why I am going, my doctor put down depression but I am not depressed, I am on anti-depressants. I have signs of depression but don't actually feel consumed by it at all.

A 10 min thing sounds awesome, I hope for the same luck

Thanks all

My first appointment was an hour, every one since then has been really short with this pdoc, like less than 5 minutes short. Other pdoc's i've seen were more like 10 minute follow-ups

Hey buddy, my appointments were also always about 10 mins ... I was in therapy, though, which is where I did most the talking, and my Pdoc just checked up on my meds. Really very painless. Keep us updated, K?

my pdoc stares at me like i'm a teradactical or that I have 3 heads... At least I'm not some sort of sasquatch. Not much goes on with a pdoc.. Basically they prescribe meds and do med management. You..... well you'll spend a sh*tload of money for 15 minutes of their time....
