Well, if you mean to others, I don't explain it to anyone. No one would get it. To say that it is about fear of rejection/abandonment, or emotional dysregulation wouldn't help because most people have a "Well, just stop being that way" reaction. To the few who know I'm in therapy, I tell them it is for depression.

To myself, BPD is good as an explanation, as is the sticky at the top of the forum. The diagnosis helped me a lot to understand that I am truly different from some others, like in the intense emotions and all that comes with that. Others feel the same emotions and can cope with them, but with me it's debilitating or I need to act on them, usually some form of running.
There's just so much to BPD.

No, there probably isn't. And that's probably the issue at hand here :P

My own post nabbed from another thread...

But to no avail - I can't ever seem to do it justice, haha.

Lol, my latest attempt is this: "A state of being where, basically, life eats you up alive".

Which, even the sound of that can be quite scary...

But I guess that could also kinda go with such things like severe depression and anxiety...

But hell, depression and anxiety are a couple of possibilities out of a handful of facets of BPD.

An attempt at a simple explanation I've came up with before was - (for a non-borderline individual) "Imagine your most stressful day ever, with a sense of turbulent, inner and outer emotional chaos - NOW, imagine living in that state for most, if not all the days of your life".

This condition is one HELL of an emotional and mental labyrinth. Not to sound cheesy, but it really does take its toll on its victims.
Also...

"Trying to define BPD is like staring into a lava lamp: what you see is constantly changing. The illness not only causes instability but symbolizes it." - from Stop Walking On Eggshells

So... I'd say instability is DEFINITELY characteristic of BPD.
