I self harm anyway, using methods I won't mention (I don't want to give people ideas, or remind them/trigger) but I was thinking about something just now.
When I'm cooking, if I accidently burn myself, I never go and put it under cold water. Sometimes I have, but most of the time I don't, because it's like, I don't know how to explain it, I want to keep that pain, that scar, just like I would if I did it deliberatley. Would you class this as self harm, or just being stupid? :P

I guess for me SI is about doing something to change how you feel. So if you get a change in feelings from not taking care of a burn appropriately, then I would consider it a form of SI.
Also I think scars or whatever, can represent how we feel inside, so a physical manifestation of emotional pain and again I think this can be seen as being connected to SI. I wouldn't see it as being stupid.

I have done this, too.
And I identify with trying to change a feeling this way. And also keeping pain. Billi

So.. whether it's intentional or accident is really irrelevent, because your logic after the incident is the same. |
