As I go through posts on the BPD forums here, it becomes quite apparent that the negative views of this disorder far outweigh any positive ones. Is this true of all BPD sufferers? Are we just a ball of emotions, fearful of being alone and do the negative aspects of BPD really define our lives or are there good things about us that could actually be a result of some of the traits of BPD? I wanted to take a moment and focus on this, maybe brighten some days...

So I found this article on bpd and one excerpt says it like this:

Quote:
Possible positive aspects of BPD
Although people with BPD have dysfunction as discussed, this isn't the whole picture. The fact is that many people with BPD are very interesting, articulate, bright and capable (even if they, themselves, don't recognize it). By their nature, they can be creative, "out of the box", "trailblazers", and these qualities can be a very good thing in life.
So I ask you, are you any of those things? Are there other aspects of your life that are possibly positive, perhaps as a result of your disorder?

For me, I can honestly say that I am artistic. I have been all my life. It is the single identifiable thing about myself that does not change. Now I know that the artistic side of me is really unrelated to my BPD but at the same time it is affected by it, as sometimes my art will reflect the emotional state I am in at the time.

I'll just leave it at that for now, I don't want to make this post about me
Thanks for this!

I have a tendancy of focusing on the bad side..but you're right. Many BPDs have gone in to music, writing, and theater...and it's believed that BPDs as a group have higher than average intelligence. I am an English teacher, and not to put anyone else down, but I've noticed us as a group. We are much more articulate, well spoken, and use correct spelling/grammar/punctuation than a lot of the folks here.

While I'm not artistic, I do appreciate the arts a LOT! Music, dance, drawings, and paintings,....the list goes on. One artisitic quality that I suppose I do have is writing. Short stories and poetry ~ those are my gifts.
