I don't know much about BPD (which I have) but is pushing away people a symptom of BPD?

Kinda. Have you read the sticky on borderline symptoms? Here it is:
http://forums.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=115908 It's a great description of the illness. It's not the DSM IV list but a description of what it's like to have BPD. You do push people away when you have BPD out of a fear of being abandoned. "I hate you; don't leave me" is a great description. You fear being left, you don't want to be left, yet you assume the person you care about will leave you for whatever reason, so you leave them first to spare yourself the pain. At least that's how I do it. Reading about BPD is very helpful. I've learned more about reading descriptions of it online than from my therapists and doctors. They have very clinical terms. I like the down to earth descriptions. |

A GIGANTIC one!!!! Read the above description of BPD at the top of the BPD forum page...it will give you the basics and is pretty good. We want to be close but push away, we also cling and manipulate...sometimes within a short amount of time to one another. It's great fun!! Feel free to PM at any time if you want to talk....

Also...read the "you know you're borderline when" thread...It's funny because it's so true and should also be very helpful.

Pushing away or running away -- both the same result. Feeling like you want people around but then also wanting them to just go away... all at once sometimes. it's ridiculous!
