My name is Renee, I was officially diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in 2009. I am 49 years old and also suffer from Major Depression and Anxiety. BPD has affected and does affect every area of my life. I just want to feel better and be able to get the help I need. My health insurance won't cover any sort of therapy or counselling for mental illnesses. It's maddening.

That your insurance won't cover mental health is disgusting. A few years ago Congress passed a law that made it mandatory that if a plan covered mental health it had to be covered equally to physical health, but employers could get around it by not covering mental issues at all. Infuriating.

I can't recommend this at all yet because I just joined the group myself, but Dialectical Behavior Therapy is the treatment of choice for BPD, and you can get it here: http://health.dir.groups.yahoo.com/g...&sec=dir&slk=4. Someone else on this site recommended it to me, so I'm going to give it a try.
Thanks for this!

Hello and welcome. It's very frustrating when health insurance doesn't cover mental health issues. That's just infuriating. Have you looked into your local mental health facility? For example, the county I live in has one for our tri-county area. It's just a few bucks a session to go and they have psychiatrists and therapists...and group therapy if I remember correctly. It's state run and state funded, but it's better than nothing. Just a thought.

Welcome to the forum and hello. I'm sorry that your insurance won't cover any kind of treatment for mental illness, that's awful and sadly it seems to be quite common. I hope that you find PC helpful, it's a pretty supportive bunch here.

I am not covered, either. I have to do all my work on myself on my own. I do have a mentor, thank goodness, who understands bpd and ptsd. But I worry about ppl who can't even get help.

I got bypassed from the mental health system because I was diagnosed with bpd, also Medicaid doesn't cover psychotherapy anymore, and I do have Medicare, but I have to pay copayments. Can't do that, also the t's that do Medicare and Medicaid are already burned out and jaded. So I am doing it mostly myself.

Welcome. You are not alone.
