Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day?
Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you?
Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized?
Do you have memory problems?
Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in?
Do you feel scared of yourself ?
How much do you think about checking out?
Do you feel more depressed then anything?
Can you see yourself in the future?
Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok?
Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ?

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day? Not really. My affect is pretty flat, fairly detached.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you? yes, but not a daily thing.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized? yes, and I would say this is very common with me.

Do you have memory problems? yes

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in? I don't believe that I fit in with the world.. In regards to people it's a bit more complex.. a big part is I don't feel that I fit in, a part would be that I'm detached. Being detached protects others from me emotionally, and me from them emotionally.

Do you feel scared of yourself ? No...

How much do you think about checking out? I think about it fairly often, but nothing I'd act upon at this point in my life.

Do you feel more depressed then anything? depressed, hopeless, out of ideas, tired of thinking

Can you see yourself in the future? I see myself existing

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok?
yeah, at times I'd like to disappear and start a new life somewhere else.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ? no

Any suggestions on how to explain myself to a therapist. Going for the first time next month. How do you explain who you are when you don't know yourself. Think I'm afraid they will confuse me even more or misunderstand me. Afraid I'm going to get locked up because of suicide thoughts , and no I would not act on them.

I would not worry about being locked up. The only way that would happen is if you had intent. Generally, a psych ward does not have the space for someone with just thoughts as that can be treated outpatient.

In regards to explaining who you are.. I think this sums it up..
Quote:

I don't think I could describe who I really am. My suggestion would be to write out what it is that affects you and how and take that with you.

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day? Sometimes, but not really. When they do change, they change drastically.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you? Yes, but I've always been this way.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized? Yes.

Do you have memory problems? With some things. Not really, though.

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in? Definitely.

Do you feel scared of yourself ? Yes.

How much do you think about checking out? Often.

Do you feel more depressed then anything? Depressed, hopeless, angry.

Can you see yourself in the future? Not really.

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok? I've thought about it.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ? No.

If you believe you have BPD make sure your therapist specializes in it or at least works with it. It's easy to do the research on-line for most therapists these days. Don't worry about how to act or what to explain but DO be honest and put things in to words as best as you can. Therapists are trained to deal with people and will lead the discussion.

I'm am going to a clinic first of next month I was referred to. I don't have insurance so no choice in who I get to talk to. I am worried they will say just like my doc that its just anxiety and panic attack disorder that is causing me many problems. I have read every post on here and I can relate 100 % to each and everyone of you. It has given me comfort to know I'm not alone. Have been told I was bipolar but after researching it and coming across bpd I now know what is wrong with me. This will be first time to therapist , worried about going, being misunderstood. I have a hard time explaining myself. I have also been diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson's so I'm afraid they will use that as excuse for emotional issues. I have been this way my whole life, no friends, no family. Pretty much alone except for poor excuse of a husband who is alcoholic and verbally abusive, and two kids 21 and 10. I need to get it together for my kids sake. Just want help. Thank you for listening

A suggestion. Highlight and copy a post before pushing the submit button. That way, if it doesn't take it you can just paste it back and try again. If you're not sure how to do that, feel free to PM me and I'll let you know.

I wish you the best of luck with everything.
Thanks for this!

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day? --- absolutely. and they change in a SNAP. like it did just a few minutes ago. was doing aboslutely great. had a good day at work. came home fairly happy. then i spoke to a "friend" and now my mood is crap.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you? ---- there are MANY MANY sounds that bug the crap out of me. these include: dripping water, styrofoam, markers and pencils writing on paper, people walking in flip flops & hard heeled shoes, plus more...i also cannot concentrate on anything if there are other sounds in the background.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized? --- sometimes...i wouldnt say always, but there are times where i feel like the thoughts keep coming and i cant really make it through much anything else.

Do you have memory problems? --- absolutely. especially short term. i also have processing issues. sometimes when people say something, it takes me a few extra seconds to actually GET what they said

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in? --- i dont fit in anywhere and im not sure i have a purpose.

Do you feel scared of yourself? --- scared FOR myself.

How much do you think about checking out? --- quite a bit, but im too much of a wuss to do it. i have a huge fear of dying which is kind of weird when you're someone who wonders whether they should even be alive.

Do you feel more depressed then anything? --- yup

Can you see yourself in the future? --- i want to see myself in the future. i really do.

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok? --- i'm not sure, honestly.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds? --- i actually dont drive because im afraid i'd hurt someone.

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day? Not usually. When I'm having a good day, it usually stays good. When I'm down, I'm really down.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you? Only when I'm down. Then I can't handle too much stimulation.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized? Not usually, but sometimes when I'm really down.

Do you have memory problems? Not usually. But I dissociate when I'm really, really, really depressed. Very rare.

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in? Always.

Do you feel scared of yourself? No.

How much do you think about checking out? When I'm very depressed, often.

Do you feel more depressed then anything? No.

Can you see yourself in the future? Yes, though it's vague.

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok? I do live by myself.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds? No. I can't afford the possible traffic ticket.

I really appreciate all of you answering my questions. Your answers have enlightened me and have helped me understand myself better. I feel a little less crazy now, lol. I have been living in a lost state of mind most of my adult life, just going through the motion's but never being able to connect to the world or people around me. Now I know why. Always felt like some of freak looser and I was the only one who was like this. Any suggestions on how you cope or meds that have helped would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so very much.

I wrote a thread the other day and DBT and meditation and feel lazy and don't feel like rewriting it, but it's on this front page. It is not a quick fix and it sometimes feels impossible, but it does help when worked on frequently. http://forums.psychcentral.com/borde...we-can-do.html

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day?

not particularly. They change but it's not "frequent" but my emotional outbursts just seem kind of unpredictable or extreme when they happen.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you?

I don't know if I would be, I do notice strange sounds that distract me at times, but since I'm very hard of hearing I'm sure it bothers me less than some other people.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized?

I do at times, yes. It's not a constant, and it doesn't immobilize me so much as it distracts me at night if I'm trying to get sleep. That's when I really notice it the most.
Do you have memory problems?

Hmm. I don't remember. >.< Just kidding. Actually I have a very good memory for certain details. People are surprised at times that I remember certain things about them or things we've said or talked about.

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in?

I don't fit in. The world is weird, not me.

Do you feel scared of yourself ?

I'm not sure i can answer this one. Can you elaborate? I am not particularly afraid of myself, though at times I might be afraid of how I might react to certain things.

How much do you think about checking out?

Well that's a hard question. I never think about checking out as in, permanently, but then I do feel like I wish at times that the turmoil and the pain would end. I just have a very strong will against every truly checking out completely. It helps that i have escapes though that I can run to and not think about things for awhile...

Do you feel more depressed then anything?

no. It varies. fortunately for me, with my BPD, I get depressed but once it's over it's like I forgot why I was depressed in the first place. It's usually brief and after a crash from mania, or after I've embarrassed myself, hurt someone or screwed up (in my mind) royally.

Can you see yourself in the future?

I can hope for the future, but I can never envision it as a picture, no.

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok?

no. I could never live alone completely. I sometimes wish for some solitude but I always know that it can never be permanent and it never fixes anything for me.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ?

Oh jeez. you have no idea. Mania for me + 2010 Mustang = DANGER (luckily I no longer have that car!)

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day? Have days i am emotional basket case and days of just being numb.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you? Little sounds like ticking clocks, plates being scraped and the It I live with.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized? My thoughts can be constant to point i just shut down.

Do you have memory problems? Yes, especially when it comes to the past, short term memory shot due to Parkinson's .

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in? Feel like I am on the wrong planet. Very disconnected from people.

Do you feel scared of yourself ? I am afraid of what i might do if the state of depression i am in ever lifts . Very bad manic episodes in past.

How much do you think about checking out? Daily. Feel like my life is over. Battling so many things right now. Very stuck right now, cant move forward because of fears and lack of self worth. Dont ever see myself being able to be a productive adult or with someone who could love me.

Do you feel more depressed then anything? Have been severely depressed for 8 months or more now, antidepressants dont work for me.

Can you see yourself in the future? Nooooo....

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok? Sometimes i think my solution would be to go live alone, very unrealistic as i am afraid of being alone.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ? Ya .I need to get rid of my car, it is fast and thats how i drive it. I'm afraid im going to hurt someone one day

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day?
Several times, definitely; frequently, it depends. I occasionally go through one of those periods where I cycle through 3 or 4 very intense emotions very fast, usually when I'm arguing with someone, but it doesn't happen everyday.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you?
When I'm anxious or upset, definitely.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized?
Yes, but not frequently. If I get involved with relationships or start having flashbacks, that's when it's the worst. I occasionally have very vivid flashbacks which totally do that. My thoughts do keep me up at night at least 2 or 3 nights a week.

Do you have memory problems?
When I get really, really upset I dissassociate and then that happens the finer parts of my memory go away. I'll remember the event but the details will be fuzzy. On the other hand, I never forget an argument and I get close to a ideitic memory when I drink too much, able to repeat a conversation almost word for word. I think it's from bad memories with my mom. She would forget a lot when she drank and I told myself I wouldn't do that.

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know were you fit in?
It depends on what I'm doing. I'm a writer and a teacher. When I'm doing one of those two things, I feel at ease. When it comes to pretty much anything else though, particularily social situations, forget it.

Do you feel scared of yourself ?
On a daily basis, no, but there have been times that I've been very scared of what I might do. When I'm upset, particularily when it comes to abandonment issues, I'm very, very impulsive.

How much do you think about checking out?
This instant, in the present time, not much. Occasionally when I'm depressed it passes my mind but not in a real serious way. There have been times, however, where it was a real serious consideration.

Do you feel more depressed then anything?
It depends; it can be, but not necessarily. Right now, my anxiety is probably the worst, but I do get really depressed at least a few times a week. Most of my issues stem from relationships or lack of. Those things, right now, are not bothering me too much so not really, but that can change really fast.

Can you see yourself in the future?
Yes, but not realistically. I have regular, almost constant fantasies about things in the near future, within a year or so, but none will ever happen. I think it's my mind's way of escape, having an ideal world always running through my head. I thought I'd die early and am surprised I've lived this long.

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok?
Yes and no. I've already kinda done that, moved 2,600 miles from home with only my husband. I do think about living alone a lot, being a hermit all to myself, but I don't think I could do it for long; I enjoy people's company too much, but who knows.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ?
Don't get me behind the wheel when I'm really upset. I drive fast and am very, very careless. I've driven on the wrong side of the road, almost run someone over, and have run red lights. Somehow, miraculously, I've never gotten in to an accident, but it's scary.

Emotions? Yes they change often.

Sound? Yes people tapping, whistling, hurt my ears and get extremely agitated.

Thoughts? Not constantly. But have this sometimes.

Memory? Disconnected periods I don't remember hardly anything.

Out of touch? Yes today I do, talking. Smiling. Eye contact is physically painful today.

Scared of myself? Yes most of the time

Checking out? I don't want to check out. But I have thought about it.

Depressed more then anything? No. I feel disconnected at times. Like today. But not depressed.

Future? I can't see further then my nose.

Live by myself? Sometimes, but this is a lie. I can't cope with out some kind of contact

Driving? Yes hence the speeding ticket :/

So, I'm a little late to the party here...and technically, I've not received a diagnosis for BPD. Regardless, your questions struck me as significant, so I thought I'd share as well.

Do your emotions change frequently throughout the day?

More than I'd like to admit. I used to be fairly normalized in regards to emotions, but in the past decade, I've noticed that I can never predict what type of day I'm going to have based on the first few emotions.

Are you sensitive to sound at times to the point it agitates you?

Just last night, I was becoming annoyed with something that had happened, and soon after, any noise became agitating. My cell phone's various alerts, my neighbour's microwave, people outside...it was all causing me some great distress.

Do you have constant thoughts running through your mind to the point you feel immobilized?

I'm not certain if I always feel physically immobilized, but most certainly emotionally and/or mentally. I freeze up and cannot make decisions sometimes due to overthinking.

Do you have memory problems?

Yes. I like to say I have sometimer's. But it is becoming quite a problem. If I don't write down things at work, I would simply miss everything I was supposed to do. My favourite issue is when I'm speaking to someone or waiting for my turn and literally forget what I was going to say as I am attempting to say it.

Do you feel out of touch with the world and people, don't know where you fit in?

Sometimes, but not often. I do a lot of volunteer work. I socialize a lot. I do just fine with current events. Considering some of my issues, I'd say I fit in quite well. Is it where I'm supposed to be? Well now...that's a good question.

Do you feel scared of yourself ?

Not for the sake of being scared. I suppose sometimes I'm afraid of the decisions I make.

How much do you think about checking out?

I check out daily on a mental level. I find it hard to focus at work and at home with a lot of things.

Do you feel more depressed then anything?

Definitely. Empty and sad.

Can you see yourself in the future?

I'm not sure. My current place in the world isn't where I'm going to be forever...I know that. But I can't see what will happen when I move from here. I have no prospects elsewhere. I don't even know if I will have friends or a job if I move from here. It's a very daunting thought.

Do you feel that if you could go live somewhere by yourself you would be ok?

Absolutely. Regardless of my issues with abandonment and loneliness, I actually do very well by myself. I can amuse myself on my own quite well. But I can't do it forever.

Have you ever found yourself driving at excessive or dangerous speeds ?

I don't have a car where I live, but I do have one in the south. I've always driven at excessive speeds. I used to blame it on my genetics (my nana and my father - both leadfeet in their driving days). Now I'm not so sure.

~~~~
I'm not sure what you were looking to get from our answers, but I hope that we've been able to help in some small way. Your questions allowed me to see some things I didn't realize before...so thanks for that. Perhaps some thing I can bring up if I ever manage to get a therapist again...
Thanks for this!
I have not been professionally diagnosed with BPD either. I'm still looking for answers to why I am so emotionally high strung.
The driving question .... I was on another support group seeking help for depression and was very suicidal at the time.
I was reading through others post one night and came across one that mentioned something to the affect of just wanting to get in car and keep driving. It triggered something in me because I remembered as a young adult I would get in my car and just drive for hours and realized I have done this my whole life when I would get upset and still do it to this day. Its like a feeling of needing to escape. This person who wrote the post was borderline. I started reading his post and others and read words that I could have wrote myself. One of the posters a woman started talking to me and suggested I read the book " I hate you , don't leave me ".
It was a big eyeopener for me. So much of it described me, my emotions and actions. The problem with bpd is the coexistence of other disorders within its self . If you read through the different criterias each of them is a disorder in themselves. You could probably identify with one or more of them based on some experiences in your past or present life. We all go through or have experienced tough times in life that we may have not handled so well. I myself think you have to look at the consistency of how you have dealt with things and at the intensity of your emotions when doing so. I can identify with others on this site who are borderline, dose that make me borderline I don't know. I do know I have found a wonderful group of people on here that I feel like I fit in with. . For me right now that's all that counts.
