Hi, i was wondering if anyone else has had where when they started taking anti-depressants. The Borderline got worse. Ever since i was put on anti-depressants i've been having more mood swings and i've been more impulsive. Please let me know. Thank you.

Antidepressants can cause mania and impulsivity in some individuals. You really need to tell your doctor about this.

Note: Sometimes, these drugs can cause BPD-like symptoms, so it is possible to get diagnosed with a condition you don't have. It happened to me.

I take anti-depressants its because I have Major Depression

I have found I was already impulsive it just made me more impulsive shop more spend more money which they gave me anti-psychotic to control that but as time goes by we all know we cannot save the money We want more, more, more....at least thats what I found out with my money habits...drugs can only help for so long before they run out of steam.

I was diagnosed with BPD and major depression so they diagnosed me before putting me on them. I was just seeing if it was normal because before i was too depressed to do much. Then i started the meds and ive gotten where i went and got my ear pierced. I wanted it so bad at the time i went to the nearest salon lol And the problem with going to the doctor is that it takes about a month maybe 2 to talk to the psychiatrist. I've been trying to find a new one but its like pulling finger nails so to speak lol

Ya i have major problems with saving money. it drives me nuts because i'm very cautious and i worry obsessivly about money but i just keep spending. And i swear the mood swings can give a person whip lash.

Have they put you any specific medication that has helped you? They have me on celexa and seraquil. But i'm not sure they're working that well. I swear seraquil can knock you on your butt in two seconds flat. And do you have troubles sleeping because i've been having that too.

When I was 17/18 the doctor gave me anti-depressants, this was when what I was undiagnosed with borderline, and it wasn't even suspected. I thought I just had depression and it was the worse thing that they could have done. When I was happy, I'd become manic. When I was sad, I'd become seriously suicidal. I became extremely impulsive, and more reckless.. It just was very, very very bad. I can understand why now, but yeah. I doubt they'd consider giving me anti-depressants any time soon..

when put on antidepressants (prozac) i became manic. It's one of the reasons that they list bipolar in my Axis 1. I would certainly talk to your doc. I am in Canada too and i know how hard it can be to get into a psych. Do you have Mental Health in your area? If so this can help alot. I went in to get on the wait list for DBT and lo and behold they have a full time psych with them now also and i start seeing him tomorrow. A 3 week wait.

I'll have to check into that. I have tried contacting them to get into DBT but they haven't answered. They don't even pick up the phone. I don't even know for sure what is going on. The dr. just says that he's pretty sure its BPD but every time i try to talk to him he cuts it short and always has one foot out the door. I've been looking for a new one but haven't found one yet. I'll have to check that tho. Thank you

Really no one can say generally that Anti-depressants do or don't do this for all. It's really a very hit and miss thing with meds and there are so many varieties of anti-depressants it depends as much on which one you're taking also. What one does for one person may not be the same as what it does for another. Which is why a lot of people with many mental issues go through a time where their meds are changed a lot. The Dr has to find the right "mix" to work for you.

if you see a spike in moods or behavior at any time after changing meds, you need to contact your dr right away. If it's severe enough they will take you off the current med right away and put you on something else
