Well anxiety itself is not necessarily one of the criteria for BPD but does seem to make sense that is occurs with it simply for the fact that much of the description of BPD has to do with emotional-intensity. I mean, it's not a defining factor but common due to the other behaviors and emotions.

This is kinda like the square vs rectangle question....

One includes the other, but not always.

If you have BPD you likely have anxiety. But if you have anxiety - that does not mean you have BPD. Other issues are involved.

I'm not sure of the direct correlation between the two, but I know for me that my BPD has me very hypervigilant which leads to very high anxiety. In fact, most of my meds are for anxiety issues. I think perhaps my almost constant fear of abandonment has something to do with the anxiety so to me anxiety seems a natural part of BPD.

At least on this forum it seems that we are all dealing with anxiety one way or another.

Agree very much!
Appreciate the question raised and responded to - thanks everyone.
Angel of Bedlam, your response particularly struck a chord with me, re the hypervigilance causing anxiety. That's something I'm really focusing on lately : "giving myself a break from overthinking things" in my marriage, as my T puts it. ... Yeah, easy for her to say, right?! "Just you try being in my head, eh??" But as a mindful focus, to 'have a holiday' from hypervigilance as much or as little as I can, I find I can give myself a bit of breathing space and choose to trust that things are or will be ok, or that I can at least accept the next ten minutes ...
Thanks for this!

My pdoc told me to ask myself in high stress situations to first ask myself if anyone is dying. She said if no one is dying, then I should be able to handle the rest. It kind of helps.

I agree with everyone said here. Anxiety can occur without bpd. In the case of bpd, at least I think, that the thinking that comes along with the disorder can cause a lot of anxiety. The medication I take is for my serious anxiety that stems from my bpd.

Lol, we'd all be looking as beautiful, but we do, regardless of our struggles, as we have many great facets, or qualities as individuals, they simply are repressed at times . . . may we shine on.
