If you have been also DXed with Bipolar, perhaps but I've personally never heard of it for BPD itself.
Thanks for this!

I have heard that some studies "suggests" lithium may also help mood swings in BPD to some degree. This is still pretty new so there is not much out there about it yet. Officially, no. But may be? Make sense?

Yeah perhaps for moodswings but I think if at all, it's rare. Since Lithium is a med that takes constant observation due to it's effect on the body, I think most doctors would try other measures first.
Thanks for this!

I began taking Lithium several months ago, before I was diagnosed with BPD. It was given me for mood swings. I wasn't diagnosed with Bipolar, but I do know my meds Dr. mentioned it a while back; my T doesn't really agree though. Then came the diagnosis of BPD a short while ago. I haven't found the Lithium at all aiding with my presence of mood swings, but I am sure some do.

I wouldn't know, I'm neither BPD or a doctor.

Yes, it does and I am not asking for a professional opinion. Just wanted to know if anyone other than a doctor may know what all it is used for because I have been hurting most all of my life and haven't found help or relief

I was put on Lithium maybe 8-9 years ago for mood swings. I didn't stay on it for long, dont remember why. I have never been bipolar. Now I'm on Lamotragine for mood, and I think it's working for me. I still have mood swings but it is so much less intense. I'm slowly not driving my family crazy anymore...lol.

I hope Lithium or something else does the trick for you! Best of luck!

Well I am BPD and also BP. I do not recall a single doctor, of many that have suggested lithium as a choice for my mood swings. That's my experience and I go with that and also that Lithium, once again potentially can be dangerous if not kept in check, I'm guessing that it's not a "first choice" Again this is my take, not DeFacto information.

While you're welcome to post in any forum of course, I'm curious as to what motivates you to post information that sounds almost "authoritative" on BPD when you're neither BPD or a doctor/therapist?

Not trying to troll here, just curious. Do you know someone that is bpd, or something?

I understand; for me the idea of taking medication is tough to begin with. But I try to think of it as an aide and to not have real high expectations as there's no cure. Instead a hope in taking the edge off as many take medications for so many various types of illnesses. It is the same for us; just a different disorder. It's very important to give it plenty of time to have its full effects. I wish you the best with your treatment.

They have tried just about everything for over 4 years now. So, yes, not the "first choice" And I was slightly offended by the whole not a doctor comment by whoever that was!!! They haven't quite decided on BP or BPD with me. Should be getting a referral to a new pdoc soon.
