Hi. Has anyone read the excellent book called '' The Buddha and the Borderline '' ? It's by Kiera Van Gelder. It's a remarkable well written book, but don't be put off by it's title. It's really not a plug for Buddhism! A captivating journey by Kiera from her early years filled with pain and frustration - through diagnosis - to personal enlightenment. There are many moments of wit and wisdom, certainly enough to keep you captivated until the last page. I consider this book to be a great '' educational '' tool for families or friends wanting to learn about a loved one suffering BPD.

I haven't read it, but I've heard good things about it from other people too, I think I'm going to try reading it.

I was trying to find good books about bpd or self help stuff or anything last night! Might look into this one.
Anyone got any other suggestions?

Hi. OK it's about Kiera Van Gelder's life living with Borderline Personality Disorder. After her first suicide attempt at the age of 12, which marked the onset of her struggles with drug addiction, depression, PSTD, self harm and chaotic romantic relationships .................. all of which went long before her belated official diagnosis some 20 years later. This is one womans story of coping with, and eventual 'recovery', by way of therapy and spirituality (in this case Buddhism) though not forgetting some disastrous on-line dating! At first, on researching as much as possible about her ''new label'', Kera became devastated by what she read - although there was some relief to have found out at last the reasons why she acted in the ways she had. There were now reasons for her devastating rollercoasters, both ''ups'' and many ''downs''. A must read for sufferers and family/friends who are living alongside a loved one with BPD. As a sufferer of BPD (the last 30 years) and all of it's consequences, I found this book is written with honesty and a great deal of HOPE.

Hi, yeah, another book which is good but is fact and not autobiography, is one called B.P.D. DEMYSTIFIED. (An essential guide for understanding and living with BPD)
By ROBERT O. FRIEDEL. MD.

I have not read it, but I firmly believe that the Buddhist ideals as well as mindfulness and meditation have saved my life, several times over.

Hello again. I've found another VERY good book about BPD. It's the newest one I've read so far and is very kind in it's approach. Although a 'fact' book rather than a 'story', it is unusual to find a fact book on this subject that's kind and a soft approach - this one really is. Even I have learned things I didn't know about BPD, and also the way Psych Dr's approach it. This book is called:

The Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide. (Everything you need to know about living with BPD)
Written by Alexander L. Chapman, PH.D and
Kim L. Gratz, PH.D
Foreword by Perry D. Hoffman, PH.D., President, National Education Alliance for BPD. I think it's an American book. I'm in the UK and I ordered it from my local bookshop. There's a web site. NewHarbinger.com | Real Tools for Real Change

Enjoy.

There is Rachel Reiland's book, Get Me Out Of Here, which tells her story of recovery from BPD. I have not gotten it yet; has anyone here read it?

I want to recommend my favorite book on BPD here, The Bad Object by Jeffrey Seinfeld. It has excellent case studies of borderlines who recovered.

But The Bad Object should come with the warning that it's partially a book of psychodynamic theory, so if you don't like psychology, it might be too confusing. It's best for someone who has a light background in psychodynamic theory, but if you have that; then it's a very optimistic and encouraging book.
