Have you ever put yourself in psych hospital? What are your criteria for knowing when to do it?
I am having suicidal ideation. I'm on the edge of feeling like I can't take the craziness in my head. Anxiety and depression are spinning out of control.
If I just knew how to make it through the work day. I made it here but I have gotten nothing accomplished but a little self harm.

I have been PUT in the nuthouse, but I have never put myself in it.

You have to decide if you are safe or not....
Thanks for this!

Same here! And I agree completely. You know best if you are safe or not. I think about suicide all the time and I don't need to be hospitalized (at the moment at least), but there could be someone with less intense suicidal ideation who needs the safety of the hospital. It depends on the person.

That was horrible. The lady who I made the appt with said they accepted my insurance. I was actually excited to get treatment. They don't accept my insurance! And they are the only outpatient program in my area. Back to square one.

Call your county health services. They will be able to give you suggestions.

I have been debating that. The last time I went there they told me I wasn't sick enough. They only see schizophrenia and other severe mental issues because of budget cuts. Maybe I fit the criteria now. It feels like my only option is inpatient.

I was not saying you had to go to the county health center..... just call them and explain your situation - they will know what services your area has to offer and should be willing to recommend some private therapists / hospitals that can help you.

This is a good discussion and thank you for asking. I have often wondered too.
I'm not big on therapy myself but at a minimum can you find a therapist to meet with immediately ... They might have suggestions. I had great help before and none at all depending... But I think at least find someone. If money is an issue explain the insurance problem and many have a sliding scale and can help you for less if needed. Good luck and keep asking for help... You will find it.

There are other option. A crisis stabilization unit if you have one or any hospital near by. Just present yourself to the emergency room and be honest. They should not be able to deny you treatment. Done it about 50 times. You will get a bill if your insurance doesn't cover all. When I had private insurance it only covered half. Later several years later the hospital wrote off the other $10,000. Best of luck.
