I'm not sure how he could cause her arthritis? Unless he has caused her broken bones?

Please note I am not trying to deny that your father is being abusive. He has clearly hurt you and your mother.

I find though that it is best to keep the blame where blame is warranted.

I spent many years blaming my father for the outward abuse never realizing my mother played her own part. (That doesn't mean yours carries any blame though.)

My understanding of arthritis wouldn't seem to find a cause for it in a relation with BPD.

I'm sure she didn't mean it that way.

I note she has BPD too.

I think she's just trying to express how much her dad has hurt her. That he has BPD is incidental.
