As far as I'm aware, landlords can't ask psychiatric service dogs to be removed from a property but i dont think this can be said for emotional support dogs. You also don't get a choice as far as I'm aware, you're matched to the dog best suited to you regardless of the breed. I highly doubt restricted dogs are trained for this sort of role and with good reason. Hope this helps.

I have an Emotional Service Dog! he's a 10 pound Terrier mix!
I no longer have to pay Pet rent and I get my Pet deposit on my apartment back (over $1,000 value). I didn't get a restricted breed, but you can get ANY dog you want, and they can't do ANYTHING about it. it's GREAT. i bring my dog EVERYWHERE now. and there's NO training for an ESA!

you're WRONG! An emotional support dog counts just like a regular Service Dog. They get all the same rights. I have one, I know

I don't think that you can bring ESAs on passenger airlines (unless they're small enough), but other than that haley is right.

Some landlords might not allow ESAs depending on where you are, but asking won't hurt.

It's not off topic. Emotional support dogs do not have the same rights as psychiatric service dogs in the UK. In fact I don't even know of an association that offers them. The OP is in the UK so my info is relevant to them.

I'm saying my post is off topic, not yours. Just commenting on the American comment...whatever.

How do you apply for one? How can I get one? I think this would help loads for me. I have a cat who hates me, and a dog would make life bearable. I am diagnosed with BPD and depression and I'm on zoloft, but it's just not helping.

omdjt- search online for emotional support animal- there are a couple of websites that you can go through. You will also need a note from your T as a prescription....

Oh my goodness! I've been thinking about getting a dog. Thought it might help me to have some(one) to love and care for and to be a companion. I have never heard of Emotional Support Dogs. This is amazing. I want a dog, but am so worried that I will let it overwhelm me and then give it away and break my heart and my dog's. Our emotions are so unstable. I can't trust myself and I don't want to hurt a dog.

Anyway, I hope this works out for you. I don't know anything about it, but it seems to me that ESD's shouldn't be any different than any Service Dog.

You don't need to apply for one, you need a psychiatrist or therapist to write something up that you need one. You can choose any dog or cat, there is no special training.
