Are any of you frequently bored? Have you ever been so bored that it literally hurts to the point where you start crying? I get bored easily. Even when I'm doing something fun, I feel dissatisfied. I've even cut myself out of extreme boredom. Sometimes I wish I could go out & do really crazy things just to feel something more. I just want to be able to have fun & feel satisfied like a normal person. Does severe boredom tie in with feeling tremendously empty? Is it the same?
What have you done about it?

With me, my emptiness ties in with loneliness and boredom. I usually knit whenever I'm feeling bored, to avoid cutting.

Yup, boredom can be a huge monster, and I've had to confront it in my past. I agree that a huge part of emptiness derives from boredom.

As for the solution, I think it really depends on what matters to you and what you enjoy doing. What are your hobbies ? Do you have well-defined goals of any kind ? If you don't know what you enjoy, try and find out ! Try different activities.

If you don't find the energy or motivation to do stuff on your own, meetup.com is a great way to meet like-minded people. NY should have plenty of great meetup groups.

Volunteering is awesome in every respect ! Maybe you could work at an animal shelter, or join a search and rescue force. I've always dreamed of joining search and rescue, and bringing missing people home to their loved ones. Think about how good that would feel ! Soul food, literally. It's also a great way to meet people and make friends.

I discovered fitness after a horrible breakup 6 years ago. This discovery changed my life forever.

Now, I'm a fitness junkie, so I spend every waking moment working towards my fitness. Even though I can only spend about 90 mins a day at the gym, I'm eating my meals (at home, work, or wherever the hell I am), taking my supplements, thinking about how I can optimize my workouts/diet, round the clock. It's a never ending challenge, and I LIVE FOR IT. This past summer, I conquered one of my greatest fears - water, and learned how to swim. Pretty soon, I'm going to start studying for an exam to become a fitness trainer. Once that's in the bag, we'll see

Of course, despite the fact that I'm biased, I unequivocally advocate exercise to you. Forget the numerous physiological benefits - I can't count how many ways it benefits you psychologically ... anger, depression, anxiety, insomnia, self-esteem, ...

Where there is a will, there is a way.

I don't really feel boredom much. But the emptiness is almost always there. I think I have too much going on around the house to ever really get the chance to feel bored.

I have struggled a lot with boredom. It can make me cry. I also sometimes think I use the term "bored" when I can't figure out how I am feeling.

I often feel bored. Like my brain needs more dopamine to have more fun in life. Regular things don't "fulfill" me like they should. I blame it on my drug use in the past. I wasn't a hard core drug user but I think I did just enough to mess up the pleasure system in my brain.

Life is boring. It just is. Unless you have a lot of money and a lot of smarts - life is drudgery. There's so much pressure for it to be anything other than that it's ridiculous. But i think distraction is different to entertainment, and most people are too distracted with work and family commitments to really notice much of the drudgery.

Yup, this is definitely something I feel as well! Not so much lately, but in the past I'd get bored to the point of tears. I'd feel so empty I'd force myself to cry just to have something to do.

I've frequently felt periods of boredom and wondered if it's linked to emptiness. Sometimes it feels like life is meaningless and futile. I also feel the need to constantly have my mind entertained. It's nearly midnight now and I've got therapy and work tomorrow but I don't want to just lay here in nothingness till I fall asleep
