Does life contain any good?*
Please someone enlighten me, cause I feel I have been searching for the answer to this question my whole life and every time I think I have found something or someone that feels good, reality hits and I am kicked back into my bubble of badness!* It sucks and I'm over trying! What is the whole point of life anyway- its just full of hurt and disappointment, why would anyone want to subject themselves to that. Life has a way of telling people when they don't belong and I feel it has been yelling it at me! I should just get used to the fact that I'll never belong! |

I'm going to dispel some myths.
Firstly, many people with bpd have the schema that they don't belong. Can you think of situations in your childhood when you felt you didn't belong? Situations in your adulthood where you felt you didn't belong? It's a deeply routed feeling. For each situation where you felt you didn't belong, can you think of just one example of where you did belong? You have found situations that have felt good. You have found someone who makes you feel good. Yes, life sure has its share of knocks and trials. But this doesn't last forever. We move in waves of ups and downs. Focus on what is good. The reality is that we are going to get hurt and yes we are going to suffer disappointment. This is why it is so important to find a good T to work with you to help you with strategies to effectively deal with life's knocks. Be well and know that there is help available to you. |

It's more in how we deal with the bad stuff than the events themselves. It's unrealistic to live a fairy tale kind of existence - life is very tough but a lot also depends on perspective. The problem with BPD is that there's a lot of introspection, comparisons, catastrophizing - basically it's difficult to accept our own part in things as well.
You don't have to belong to anyone other than yourself - the point of life is the point you give it. Continue working on the difficulties, accept your limitations and strive for as much as you can. It's all anyone can ask themselves. Feel better soon. |

Maslows basic need is a sense of "belonging" - not to ourselves but with others. It can be hard to satisfy our other needs if our basic needs are not being met.
