Not sure what the laws are here but yes, maybe they do.
Is this not an assistance measure so that if you call again some time later and you're calling and speaking to someone different they can have the information at hand? And on a second note, I would think that they are bound by Privacy - so only if, and I mean if, you made a call the only possible person who might be informed is your treating mental health practitioner? To be honest, when I've rung them, they've never asked for my name or personal details. Be well and try and not let this stress you. |

I wouldn't worry. They dont know who you are or where you live.
I have text the samaritans a few times and was happy that they knew my name from the last time i text. It means they knew what was going on the last time that i text and i didnt have to open up all over again. It helps them to know what to say to us. I must admit the first few times of texting them i had a negative view of how they were dealing with me and i was quite rude to them. But over time as they have got to know me and refer to me by my name i feel comfort and a connection. How are you feeling? Would you like to talk to us about anything? We are here to listen. |

They did ask my name but only because i had indangered my self and they were worried about my welfare. I only gave my first name. They asked me if i wanted to give my adress so they could call an ambulance but i declined.

It depends on which hotline you call--some of them even use the same call tracing software that police departments use. If they use the less advanced tracers, dialing *67 might hide your number.
The Samaritans used to be safe, but since they introduced their Twitter monitoring system, I don't really trust them anymore. Small local hotlines are the least likely to record or trace your call, since they just don't have the funding for the technology. The safest tend to be peer-run warm lines, but they also tend to have very limited hours. |

Maybe when you call but not when you text. They dont see your number and they cant unless you give it to them which they state. An without going into detai i was in a very despirate situation and they could not call an ambulance unless i gave an address which i wouldnt give because i didnt want help just someone to talk to through what was going on.

I wish you well. I hope you get the support you need. I guess if you want to be on the safer side you could with hold your number?

Well, you could always buy a very cheap pre-paid cell phone, pay cash for it, and not register it in your real name. Then it would be untraceable.
