So heres the thing. I have been reading some about borderline and i recognize myself in the following symptoms: self injury, wide mood swings, feeling empty and neglected, suicidal behavior, self hate. Also i get extremely attached to people or hate them so much, but i can hide it pretty well. Those people will never think that i am so attached to them or that i hate them. I know you are not doctors but do you think its possible for me to have borderline personality disorder? Thank you for reading.

i believe you have to meet five of the criteria to qualify for borderline. but the thing is, many of the symptoms of borderline are symptoms of other disorders as well. the best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about it.

Hi, from what you've said, it certainly sounds possible that you have BPD. I can't be certain, but then, neither can doctors, bcoz BPD is very hard to diagnose.

I recognize the symptoms because they are like my own, so that's why I feel you have it.

Some honest advice: don't put too much emphasis on the label BPD. Instead, try to work on the individual symptoms, one by one, finding coping mechanisms or fixing the problem if possible.

Hi elen,

I 100% endorse kaliope's response.

I will "assume" (apologies, if I am wrong ....) - that these symptoms would be or could interfere with some of your feelings and interactions with others.

As this may be the case, it's a very good idea to chat to a doctor about your concerns.

That way, what ever the diagnosis may be, you can get treatment tailored to your needs.

Please let us know what the overall outcome is.

Take care.

Thank you all for the reactions. It may be weird but I never ever thought that I could have a disorder even though i have so many mental health issues.. i dont know why but I just never had that feeling that I could have some sort of a disorder..

Don't let the term "disorder" put you off. It's a weird term.

You just made me google it

"A disturbance in mental functioning".

So if you thought you had "mental health issues", well, you could very well have a "disturbance in mental health functioning".

Even the term "Borderline Personality [mental health functioning] is under review as the term is demeaning.

There is a push by some medical professionals to have it changed to emotionally unstable personality.

So far no luck, but maybe one day.
