who else has this problem?

in the hours that i spend in mental calisthenics telling myself why tasks can wait, i could have already 1. done my taxes, 2. gone for a walk, 3. cleaned my apartment.

instead the sunday will be spent sitting on the couch playing games and hanging online. lots of coffee helps of course to increase the energy required to do nothing...

Oh yessssss freaka,

I sure do

But I do not like this phrase "procrastination".

I prefer the term "selectively prioritising"

Haha.

Thanks for asking.

Ah, well, yes, I am not good on unstructured time, I just fruiterer it away in indecision and avoiding activity - I think it is extreme and inappropriate fear of disappointment and/or failure that prevents me from even starting. Excuse me I must just go and journal this to show my T.

ahhh yes I also always do this. Even if I know that it HAS to be done I usually do not to it.And this relates to everything in my life, gosh we have heaps of things that need to be paid off and even when I get final demand letters I still manage to put it of assuring myself that I will do it, but I rarely end up doing it unless my husband gets home and sits there with me doing it HAHA.

I have to be up in less than 5 hours and have a test in just over 6. The reason I'm getting to bed so late is because I put off my clinical homework until after midnight when I had all weekend to complete it. What was I doing? Oh, you know, the usual: Internet surfing, Tumblr, watching movies, etc... Haven't really studied for the test either, but that's kind of par for the course (pun intended) and I'm doing pretty well in the class.

I put the pro in procrastination.

Heh, well...scored the lowest (by far) on this test than I have for any other. I passed (you need an 80% to pass in nursing school) but just barely. I'm used to A's, but you can't really not study and expect an A.

I tend to procrastinate the most when I am super depressed, which I am. What about you guys? I have a final on Wednesday though, so I need to summon all the intellectual and mental energy I have left and get through the rest of this week. Spring break is next week...I can do it.

congratulations on passing without having studied!

i'll keep my fingers crossed for you on wednesday, misskeena. sure you can do it!

procrastination has been a part of me since i can remember ( doing homework 5 min. before class starts, packing my suitcase 1 hr before i have to be at the airport, etc) so it's a constant companion for me.

Me too. Writing to-do lists helps. I never finish everything on my to-do list for the day, but it feels nice when I do accomplish some of the things.

Yesterday I accomplished a lot: Cleaned my house, did laundry, applied for disability, filed my taxes, re-organized my files & mended clothes!

I get distracted by my computer a lot. I have to force myself to get away from it to get stuff done.

I studied with my study group for a few hours yesterday, so I can't say I totally didn't study. But thanks. And that is totally not acceptable behavior; no one wants a nurse who didn't study, regardless of whether they pass their boards or not. I'm not planning on going into OB nursing, but still.

I'm really having trouble with this today. I ran out of trazodone so I took melatonin last night. I didn't sleep well. I took two naps today and I'm still tired. I did a little bit of work and made $20 and I don't have the energy to do anymore. I will need to work at least 6 hours per day for the rest of the week in order to pay rent.

I procrastinate too, often because I'm afraid of not being good enough. I agree about the to-do lists.

I'm LOL @ "selectively prioritising" - CLASSIC!!

I am doing a 52 week DBT program based on the Marica Lineham books. In this course of learning life skills/mindfulness/all that jazz, we have a skill about Turning The Mind.

It's basically getting the hell off the laptop and doing the laundry/dishes/whatever you should be doing. :P

I am a PHD level procrastinator. I've been doing it 30 years now! lol

I observe that the ikky feeling in my tummy means I'm dicking about when I SHOULD(bad word) be doing something I have set myself to do.

I don't feel I'm being very clear here at all. :/

Example of regularly occurring situation in my life requiring Turning The Mind.

I read. A LOT. I enjoy reading in bed before 'bedtime' - a time I set for myself to get good sleep, and be refreshed enough to properly participate in the day following. This isn't anyone else's decision. Only mine. - Still I will often not want to put down my book and zzz. This is called being 'WILLFUL' in DBT speak.

I am getting better at observing when I AM being willful, and Turning The Mind to crash out/do jobs during the day/whatever my goals are.

I really find this a version of 'have a cup of concrete and harden the f up.'

But it's working!

x

Well, my procrastination didn't sink me...took my final yesterday and passed my OB lecture/clinical with flying colors.

Now I'm on to the next clinical (after spring break) which is psych. Heh. Something tells me I won't have to do quite as much studying for that class as I have for the others--I think I have enough life experience!
