Hi I have been battling through mental health issues for past year and half and I have always tried to find what's "wrong" with me now I am afraid to go to a psychiatrist as they f**k around with meds. I was diagnosed with ptsd but I don't exactly think that's "it" I have been looking into the bipolar disorder I wasn't sure it was it so done a couple of months of research and came to a decision that it is not the case now I'm looking in bpd and I find It applies to me can someone help as to wether or not I need to see a psychologist or psychiatrist for diagnosis ?? I am hoping just a psychologist will do I'm a 20 year old male fyi and have previous threads in here

Did you take the BPD test thing on this site? Thatll help tell you if you are.....then I would suggest going to someone your comfortable with....a family doctor perhaps to get started. Or google the options in your area.....there are several sites that patients review their doctors.

A psychologist can diagnosis and counsel you. A psychiatrist can diagnose and prescribe meds. A family doc may or may not be able to diagnose you and, in my experience, will tell you to see a psychiatrist or psychologist anyways. My counselor who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), is who diagnosed me and has been helping me.

Thanks guys. Got another question.
::TW::
is it normal to randomly attempt suicide and being totally aware of what you're doing but dont exactly have control over your body and actions ? does this make sense?

What's going on in your mind when you do this?

"is it normal to randomly attempt suicide and being totally aware of what you're doing but dont exactly have control over your body and actions ? does this make sense?"

I tend to use the word "normal" quite subjectively because as you already know we're all pretty unique. So what fits for one doesn't fit for another.

But in answering your question - honestly? I know you've been messed around with meds in the past .... but I'd urge you to see a psychiatrist for an assessment / diagnosis (or not) for BPD ....

That can give you a referral if need be to a psychologist who can work with you to give you strategies to manage these symptoms (it concerns me that you attempt that with "little control over your body"

Hope this helps.
