I was told by my psychiatrist that borderline traits are hard to differentiate from symptoms of schizoaffective disorder. Saying this just confused me.
Anyone able to give me some clarity?

Well want to take a look at symptoms for yourself?

BPD symptoms:

Schizoaffective Disorder Symptoms | Psych Central

To me the important thing is not what they call the diagnoses but does the treatment plan make me feel better. How is the pdoc treatment helping you cope?

I'm not sure what they mean by that. To be honest they're entirely different types of disorder. One is a personality disorder and one is a psychotic disorder with a mood element of either depressive or Bipolar. I guess people with BPD can have some psychotic symptoms but Schizoaffective is really basically Schizophrenia combined with a mood disorder. I would ask them to explain further.

Exactly what Blue Bird said. I was misdiagnosed at schizoaffective, and none of those symptoms really mirror or match BPD. In fact, people with schizoaffective disorder tend to have a flat affect. There are psychotic symptoms, and psychotic symptoms do not go with BPD. Like Blue Bird said, BPD is a personality disorder. That's like a whole other ball park.

Unless you are getting BPD confused with Bipolar Disorder. With Bipolar Type II you can have psychotic features, which is what I have. But I'm not considered schizophrenic and it has nothing to do with my BPD diagnosis.

Hmm, if you really do present as a tricky mixture of BPD and Schizoaffective, then I wonder how much Paranoid Personality Disorder fits you?
