I have no idea where to write about this or get info.. Ive done research but that doesn't mean ive got the answers i want.. i need to hear from real people..
I use to use this site a lot but havent in years... so here i go..

Ive been on Effexor for the last 3 years.. It works really well... Im happy with my results.. I still have issues but thats where i need to use my dbt skills..
Recently ive been getting more frequent and severe migraines. I get electric shocks through out my body if i miss more then 2 hours...
Recently ive had body aches, severe fatigue, exhaustion, i feel hung over all the time even though i rarely drink. I feel like im constinatly withdrawing.. has any one else dealt with this? nothings really changed... maybe my bodys to use to it?? im on 300mg.. i think i want to get off of it...
advice?

Talk to your Pdoc. I never experienced any of those symptoms. Maybe even see a GP too. That seems strange.
Thanks for this!

I've been on Effexor XR for several years now, and haven't felt the way that you have described yet. *knock on wood* I HAVE felt rather disheveled, after a night of drinks & not enough sleep. Other than that, I've done pretty well. Oh ~ except I have had some difficulty reaching orgasm & cut dosage to make it easier. That's it. For me, anyway.

I was on Effexor for a few yeas-along with pretty much every other SSRI and SNRI. I had the same experience-if I missed a dose I knew within hours. Effexor has one of the shortest half lives of all the SNRIs and SSRIs, which means, the discontinuation symptomes (what the medical community calls it instead of withdrawal) are quick and bad for many people.

I see that you are in Canada. See if your psycharist (or MD) can refer you to something called The Impact Study-Through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. It is free and I participated in it recently. They send you a kit where you do a cheek swab and a salvia sample and mail it to them (all pre-paid so it costs you nothing). They will measure your liver enzymes to find out what anti-depressants work best with your body and which do not work). It showed for me that I metablolize most medication extremely fast. What this actually means for me is that I end up experience discontinuation symptoms extremely badly-which may be the case for you since you are feeling it within hours of missing a dose. Have you ever tried to go off an SSRI or SNRI? I started going off Zoloft in May. I did a slow taper, then switched to liquid prozac (prozac has the longest half life of all drugs and is therefore easiest to go off) and tapered very slow in the end. Even with that, I have been off it a month now and still get brain zaps. Soooo not fun!
At least by participating in the Impact Study, I know that there's a reason why I experience this. So it may help you and your doctor to find out the best medication for you.

Here is a link to the website: IMPACT | Individualized Medicine: Pharmacogenetic Assessment & Clinical Treatment
Hope it helps

Brittany,

I've been taking Effexor XR for over 10 years. It works for me too, but if I miss a dose, I get the exact same electrical-type head buzz thing you talk about, especially when I turn my head. If I miss a pill, I also get terrible night sweats and have worse than usual dreams. It's noticeable enough that if I've missed my pill, I can usually tell within 3-4 hours at most.

As far as your other symptoms are concerned, they may not be related to taking Effexor, especially if you've been taking it for 2 years without those symptoms. I agree you should consult with your doctor.

I missed my dose of Effexor last night and I am paying for it now. I get severe nausea and irritability bad enough for my husband to drop everything and run to a pharmacy and a pharmacy to give me an emergency dose, if that's what's needed (I forget to call my refills in). I've never had any other withdrawal symptoms though.

Edit: Oh wait, the night I do not take my meds, I usually have nightmares and night sweats

I am also on effexor, its not helping me anymore, but I also get those "electric shocks' if i miss a day. Its worse when I'm lying down or trying to sleep. I'm glad someone else feels this, people look at me like i'm crazy when I'm trying to explain it.
I got migraines before I started the effexor. My nurse said effexor should help with them but it has not.
