I can't stop! I didn't do it for like 4 months and now I've done it the last 3 days. It's like, if I start thinking about it then I can't hold it back and just have to do it. I look at it and think it's not enough and I have to do it again. My dbt therapist is out of the country and I just really wish she was here. I don't know how to stop!

I've been there.

What DBT skills have you tried? Do you know self-soothe techniques or others?

Can you find things to occupy your time and distract you?

Acknowledge your urges but try to not act on them

To be honest I haven't used any skills. The thoughts are just so strong I don't even think about it. I really suck at dbt

Do you like music?

Sometimes I get on YouTube and look up fun concerts from the past to pass away time

That's a good suggestion. I'll try that one. Thanks.

I draw and find creative things to redirect, worst case scenario I pinch myself instead. It's not as harmful but takes the edge off the urge. My what if diary has been helping too. So far I haven't even had the urge to carve in a few weeks!

You could try rubber bands, I find that quite effective.
