hi , wondering how many of you drive ? i,have never learnt due to anxiety issues and bpd impulsivity but lately it is becoming more and more inconvenient not to ,and current meds seem to be quite good at controlling destructive impulses so im kind of thinking it might be an option and got me thinking about others with same dx .

I have a license and I can drive if I have to. I don't, though, because I have panic attacks behind the wheel. My daughter has a similar issue so it's been hard to teach her how to drive.

I have a permit. In the past, I was so anxious to drive but my anxiety would start to act up and I made a couple of mistakes. In a way I'm glad I don't drive yet because I would probably start making alot of impulsive decisions.

I resent the fact that I didn't pursue a drivers license; I high school I missed it by 3 points. Driving has always been an anxiety point, but now that I'm much older I've resented no learning. If its possible please push to learn it will help as you get older.

I gave up driving when i moved back into the city after my divorce from a country boy. I live in a fair size city where the bus system is very developed and i don't miss driving and all the quick decisions you have to make on the road. Not to mention the expense and it's terrible for the environment. Each bus takes forty cars off the road!

My gods. You guys and girls are the first ones to get it. Like really get it. I have times when i feel good and want to get mine, but I've been in an accident and several neat misses because of others not giving way, and i just can't. Other cars on the road make me more than anxious and i worry about dissociating and winding up wrapped around a tree or goodness knows where :/
Yet my family give me a hard time over it inc my hubby.

I can drive, but not so much realistically. I have a harder time seeing at night and when passing cars on the opposite side of the road when their lights are on. I have a lot of anxiety and intrusive thoughts too ("omg there are deer around here, this bad thing will happen"). Whenever possible I avoid driving. I also have this intense fear of pumping gas at a gas station. Someone else always has to do it. Idk. I live half an hour away from everything I need (e.g. therapist, psychiatry) so I have to drive sometimes. I used to avoid it religiously but my parents got really fed up with me about it and there are a lot of times where I'm the only one who can get me to my appointments. As far as my therapist is concerned though, I can't drive enough to consider myself "able to drive."

I don't drive for the same reason. I did attempt to learn when I was a teenager (21 now) and actually ended up crashing into a fence (at a slow speed) because my dad was yelling at me to straighten the car out and that made me completely freeze from anxiety. Not a great memory
