Long time PC member here but first post in BPD forum. Honestly I never came here before because I try to forget that I have BPD. I'm also bipolar, PTSD, anxiety, with a history of substance abuse. Well I'm starting to realize that my BPD is causing a lot of issues in my life as far as acting out before i think. I cause trouble everytime I make a text or answer my phone. My bad impulse control is mainly fueled by anger. And then when i calm down hours later and see the things I've said or done, I'm humiliated. I have a lot of self hatred and obsessive thoughts. Sometimes i lay awake for hours thinking about what i screwed up that day. All the things I can't fix.

So my question is,.. how do I make myself slow down and think before I act? I can't live with this much self loathing and isolation anymore. Please any suggestions are appreciated!!

The DBT core principles are designed to do that. You stop, describe all your symptoms in a mindful and nonjudgmental manner, then use logic and emotional mind together to reach an action. Either changing the harmful situation, changing your reaction to it, or accepting everything as is.

I've practicing mindfullness and DBT techniques since my diagnosis. They've been very helpful for impulse control, especially anger and irritation which have always been my biggest problems,

Mindfulness is key. Very difficult to stay grounded when triggered but practice practice practice...and be gentle and kind with yourself when you stumble...we are all only human.
And we'll one of my least favorite skills mostly because I am not good at it Opposite to Emotion Action....yuck. but it can do wonders and make you feel great if you can push yourself there
