Hi everyone, I think I might have BPD. Been very depressed and suicidal off and on over the years and I have a lot of the symptoms of BPD. Love/Hate relationships with others and myself. Cutting. Moods change very quickly. Extremely sensitive and easily hurt. I've been seeing a therapist for about 6 months. He hasn't mentioned it at all but I was wondering if it would be weird if I asked him right out? I go back on Monday and I was thinking of just asking what he thought. I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to diagnose myself. Thoughts? Thank you!

Hello alexjumper79: Well... from my perspective... you can certainly ask. However, personally, I've never really gotten much out of this sort of thing. But, hey, no harm in trying... right?

Thanks for your opinion! I'm not sure if I will or not. Will give it some thought. I'm not sure what good would come from knowing even if I do have it. Although it would explain a lot. We'll see!

I think it would be fine to ask,and probably even a good idea because even if it's not BPD it will give both you and your therapist a chance to talk about the symptoms you are exoeriencing.

You could try and take the test on this site called the personality test. I found it helpful because it gave me insights on some issues I didn't not even recognize as issues.

I was able to share the results with a therapist and we were able to use it as a starting point as to what problems I needed to work on.

I found that while it was initially great to have a label and know I'm not alone, I later found the BPD label to be a hindrance as we are often treated differently by therapists and insurance companies.

Thank you all for the information. I will try that test and also probably talk to my therapist about it. Appreciate it!
