Where can we post about suicide if not in the depression section? There is no suicide section. Is this like my relationship with my soon-to-be ex-T where we're just not allowed to talk about it?? Supposed to pretend it's not really a thing? I am very quickly losing faith in this profession. Very quickly. |

The only risk I read about talking about suicide according to the lattest researches is sharing with others the method you used to take your own life.
Out of that, I read that it’s healthy to talk about it. Although, some professionals tend to avoid this topic. I was always asked by psychiatrists, though. I guess in the forums it happens to avoid other members feel affected because of others, many times, close contacts in the forum. I once received in another forum a goodbye message by someone I had contact with and I had a time looking at the newspapers of his city to see if I can guess something. Thanks god, he contacted me after a time. I don’t know what to tell you about this topic. What I’m sure is that the person who talks about his own suicide is the person who is struggling more and he deserves to be heard.

here is where doc john has posted information on what psych centrals rules are on discussing suicide.... Our Suicidal Posting Policy & Suicide Resources its not that we are supposed to pretend suicide is not real just that we have to be careful about how we discuss it. my own take on this is that its a good thing that we are not allowed to go into great details. this is a mental health website with many people that can read suicidal postings and end up being dragged down their self into their own suicidal thoughts and behaviors getting activated. example if I talked in great detail about my suicidal stuff, that may cause others other to feel suicidal. I certainly would not want to come on here tomorrow and discover someone that I know who had read my suicidal posting became suicidal their self and succeeded. also if I posted about being actively suicidal how does that make others here feel watching me go gownhill and because this is online no one can actually help me, all anyone can actually do here is read each others posts, its not like we can jump through this computer and prevent anyone from doing anything. also in one website I was on there were members that used the suicidal posting for attention. posting they were, then after lots of people were posting to them said sorry, Im not actually. just wanted to see how many would come to my rescue, kind of stuff. other very manipulative stuff happened too. not to mention there could possibly be some legalities against a website creator if it turned out to be things like people posting suicidal pacts and such. my point is I can see many ways where having a board where people were able to post they are suicidal now and this that and the other thing for plans....can go massively wrong. I happen to like the fact that suicidal postings are limited on psych central. for more info about this rule you may want to contact a moderator. |
