For me it causes a real problem with my therapist. Ugh. I feel like I am going to die, that I am nothing, that I can not function without him.
I am married and I could care less if my husband left and did not see him for days so I think it has to do with the person you have the most emotional connection with.

Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |

I felt like this for the first year and a half with my therapist. I felt like I could hardly bear to be apart from her, that I wouldn't know how to function in between sessions every week, that she would forget about me, etc. Finally we had a good enough relationship and I learned that she wasn't going anywhere and that fear started to go away slowly and now I don't worry anymore but it took a long time.

What is the longest you have been apart from her with zero contact?
