Anybody have problems with their teeth from purging. It really has done a lot of damage in a short period of time (about a year) Last dental visit was over a year ago and I had a cleaning and needed no fillings. I got another cleaning this summer and found out I have a lot of cavities. I mean like I have 7 or 8 left to get fillings in after already having 4 done so far. Plus I found out today I need a root canal. I'm not purging anymore and am taking better care of my teeth now, I just figured I might as well get this taken care of so it doesnt get worse and so i don't have to worry about it anymore.

Hello Blue_Bird: Well... I don't have problems with my teeth related to purging. In fact, I hadn't had any significant problems with my teeth in a long time. But then, a couple of weeks ago, I was in for my 6 month cleaning & check-up. And during the cleaning the hygienist mentioned the enamel was flaking off of the backs of my front lower teeth! My dentist didn't say anything about it when he checked my teeth. But after I had left the dentist's office I noticed those teeth now feel really rough against my tongue. So I guess I'm going to have to go back in & see what, if anything can be done. I don't have a lot of money to spend on expensive dental work.

Oh hell yes.

Every tooth has been filled at least once. I have maybe 6 crowns and have had 1 root canal. I have NO enamel on the insides of my upper teeth. It's amazing that I don't have horrible sensitivity.

After 35 years, I'm ashamed to say I still purge though. I want to stop. I just can't. I rinse with baking soda and see my dentist 4x/year and wait for the other shoe to drop.

I was a severe bulimic for more than a decade (have not done it for many years now) and my teeth are ruined. I have lost many teeth and need to wear a dental bridge, and I don't know how long the remaining ones will hang in there for. All of them have either had a root canal or have had several cavities filled. Currently I have one tooth that I know is simply going to fall apart one day... it is riddled with cavities that I can't afford to get fixed. At least it has stopped hurting now. I know I will have to get full dentures at some point in the not too distant future.

That is what bulimia does to teeth.

Yes. I'm 29 and have had maybe 3 teeth pulled already. One of those teeth were one of the "important" ones that tear food. Since I got it out, I've been having a lot of dental issues. My teeth also feel gritty when I'm purging a lot. I can feel the acid wearing them away. I fear I'll be 35 with dentures TeethTeeth

And I should mention the mass amounts of Motrin I have to take for the mouth pain every day! I go through Advil, motrin, ibuprofen, like water!

I had Bulimia for about 25 years or so. Lost about 3 teeth and the enamel on a lot of them is bad. I may need a root canal. I have 1 crown and may get another. I can relate to you all.

RX, be careful about taking so many of those advil, motrin, etc. Sometimes they can hurt your liver. Ask your doctor about the maximum to take without adverse effects please.

I was bulimic for six years and have luckily had minimal damage due to constant dental care. However, I do have discoloration and my teeth are very sensitive. I brush with Sensodyne and I have to wear a mouth guard at night because I grind my teeth and have chipped a couple of teeth before. I had to get rid of my tongue ring as well because it was scraping off some of the enamel on the backs of my teeth. If anything, the damage I have endured from bulimia is very severe acid reflux that I have to take a prescription medication for, and a very sensitive gag reflex.

I now need dentures as a result of decades of bulimia and major self neglect. Kudos to you for facing your reality x
