Hello. I am new to this site. I got out of an emotionally abusive relationship barely two months ago. This experience has forced me to go back to my past in order to better myself and my relationships. My mother was abusive, physically and emotionally. I thought I had dealt with all of it years ago when she passed. I can recite the stories of the things she has done without a spark of emotion. Now I see that is the problem. I am in therapy and my therapist has said this is something we will be working on. I am looking for advice on how to start the process on my own. How do you go back and deal with emotions buried so deep in the past? When he was being cruel to me, it was that helpless child I saw in the mirror. That same feeling of worthlessness. I want to be rid of that, but I do not know where to start.

I've had a lot of insight and recovery using Dr. Jonice Webb's info on psych central as well as Peg Streep. These two really and truly get it and are also CEN survivors. Hugs to you on your journey.

Your "child part" experienced things that she never processed and it's that child part you need to finally address so you can finally grieve and process the abuse and neglect you experienced.
