Tomorrow morning I go to pain management to have my monthly followup and am inquiring about a 'pain pump' to help reduce the number of side effects and less need for the oral that can be placed into the pain pump and then into my lumbar spine at a constant level of delivery and help have more round the clock pain control.

I am hopefull yet nervous. I have to be free of infection for so long and the law will no longer allow me to take the nerve pain narcotic dose I was taking and now already on my main pain drug as being morphine at 600mg a day oral as well as 6 15mg oxycodone instant release and hoping the pain pump trial can get under way and that some of the constant pain will let me have some more of a quality of life.

I am understanding the pain management dr I have been going to for over 5 years now says they can put meds into the pump that are not available in oral form.

Thanks and wish me luck I need to try and get some rest.

I wish you much luck with this pain pump! I don't know of anyone with an implanted pump though...sorry.

I truly hope this is successful for you and you can return to a better quality of life....you deserve it!

Thoughts and prayers are with you!

My husband has an implanted pain pump for his RSD. It has been a God-send. He takes no other medications to manage his pain.

Thank you, so much all for you support and encouragement. Thank you from the experience of the pain pump that your husband has 'farmergirl' and I am hoping to have surgery to remove an ifected syst that has not got mersa but does have staph and now am on my fourth round of Cipro so the ER doc today says most likely I will have to have surgery on it to rid of the infection.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((thanks again to all for the support)))))))))))))))))))

They have had these pain pumps for years. My daughter knows a lady in California who has had one for over 10 years now....she had back pain from getting shot (being a guard I think).....anyway, it worked the best for her. When my Mother was having pain after her cancer surgery, from when she broke her back when my Dad died (trying to lift him I think), my pain specialist was talking to me about putting my Mother on one of them, but she went downhill with the cancer so fast, it wasn't something that would have made any difference by that time.

I use the duragesic patches....am on a high dose of them....higher than anything most Dr's prescribe.....but it's wonderful.....evern 3 days to change the patches....never have to take meds or get pain shots....since 2003.....what a relief.....it's for my migraines that were constant.....never any relief from the pain until I got onto this dose of the patches....luckily I don't have a problem with fentynal like I do morphine (the itching from morphine & any of it's derivitives was impossible to cope with). It is so wonderful not having to take oral medication for the pain......what a difference....hope your pump works out.....it should give you a relief that you haven't been able to enjoy before now.

Best wishes,
Eskielover

Thank you ' Eskielover' I once was on the Duragesic patch myself and when it would stick and deliver the medication it was great, only with my skin problems, the patches I tried name brand, sandoz, and mylan and all three brands would not stay stuck to me with even the transdermal cover and I even tried to use duct tape, and they just would bubble up and fall off my skin before the three days was up... Sorry to hear of the loss of your mother to cancer, and I thank you again for support and reply
