OMG - you're me! lol
I had shoulder surgery February 8th and my mobility still is limited. I still can't carry a wallet cause I can't put it in my back pocket or get it out. I am going to physical therapy regularly and am told that it's a long process but hell, I don't believe them anymore. I was told originally that it can take 4-6 months to heal completely but two weeks ago I was told that I'm right on track. I've gained about 30 pounds since the surgery so I know about the weight gain. This week I had some of the most intense pain surrounding the surgical site that I have had since the week of the surgery. This is getting ridiculous. The one possible upside is that I've spoken to an attorney who says that if I am not ready to go back to work a year after surgery, then he guarantees me permanent disability. I'm not necessarily shooting for it but if it comes at least I'm not hung out to dry permanently. |

Let me encourage you to keep with the physical therapy. A frozen shoulder is no fun, and if you don't work at regaining range of motion, you will lose it forever ( or have to go through really excruciating pain to "unfreeze" it.)
My MIL never did the exercises...and she lost use of that arm practically. ![]() You can do this! IDK about gaining so much weight from a shoulder surgery, unless it is the pain med. ![]() ![]() Keep that body movin! ![]()

Physical therapy is the most important thing that you can do after surgery. If you don't continue to keep the arm moving with exercises that push the movement of the arm, the scar tissue will build up & you will loose all movement in the shoulder.
I had knee reconstruction surgery years ago, before they did it arthroscipically. Had a cast on the leg for 1 month & couldn't even bend my knee when the cast came off. I had PT 3 days a week for 6 months & I did the same PT at home the other 4 days of the week, which enabled me to be able to go back downhill skiing (with a brace on my knee) & then I continued the PT for the rest of the year. The thing was that between the scar tissue from the surgery & the atrophy from not being able to use the leg (with the cast initially) & I was on cructhes for 3 months not being able to use the leg at all to walk on, the only safe exercise I could do was the PT. It taught me just how important PT really is as I saw others who just blew the PT off & never did recover. Shoulder surgeries are the same for getting the range & motion back....knees & shoulders require the most PT & then if you are really determined, doing your own PT exercises between will guarantee your recovery......but it takes determination & drive to force that. I found that with all the PT & exercise, I ended up loosing weight rather than gaining.......Then I started to feel so good exercising that I couldn't give it up. It also got me back to being able to play racquetball which was how I injured the knee's ACL in the first place. My mother had an injury & she blew off the PT saying how she was walking around & doing things to move, but it's not the same as the PT that focuses exactly on the area & muscles surrounding the injury that will really make the difference. Keep working on it & you will be surprised when you are back to normal & will be every so thankful you did all that work. I also had neck fusion & went through the PT for that. One could never tell that I had neck fusion as my neck has no stiffness in it at all. PT, wonderful PT.....something I will always swear by after seeing the difference it really makes.

How did you injure your shoulder and what did they repair - was it a rotator cuff injury? I have frozen shoulder and had it 3 yrs ago too. I just finished my 3rd cortisone shot - the 3rd improved my condition but now 2 weeks later the pain is getting worse. I'm doing the exercises but I'm getting discouraged. It's the worse pain I've ever had and I had both my girls natural child birth lol. Like the others said - keep up with your exercises to keep the mobility. I hope you feel better soon.

You got that right LynnP I miscarried my twin boys late stage and that was childbirth plus the pain of them being conjoined. Yet this frozen shoulder pain is worse than that physically...I'm thinking of getting the dr to put me under anasthesia and tearing the muscle to free it up...anything is better than not sleeping...and the depression and anxiety on top is woeful
