I have a friend that is in chronic pain due to disc problems in his back. He has been told that there is nothing that can be done to fix it. He is in severe pain. He really needs some kind of pain management treatment. Does anyone have suggestions about help that is available to the uninsured?

I'm guessing you're in the US. I'd suggest starting with city or county public health care for the short term and then look into Social Security disability options after that.

George is right. He should talk with Social Services in his county and see what kind of help is available. The trouble is, if he's white and has no children he probably won't get any help. That's what my son was told. He had the same problem.

After my son developed numerous other health problems, he got on SSI plus Medicaid. But he had to get REALLY sick before they'd help him. So I guess if you're white with no children, you have to have one foot in the grave before you get any help. Not fair, but that's the system.

Best of luck and God bless. Hugs, Lee
