Just a quick intro to say hello and give a little info about myself.

I am married, 44, have three children, two still at home, teenage daughters 16 & 17. I live in the Great White North, just outside of Toronto Ontario in Canada.

I have had chronic pain and FM for years. I had been able to manage my FM pretty well with just dietary changes and exercise, until the depression comes back, then diet and exercise go out the window and pain sinks back in.

Due to a history of addiction I can't get diddly from my doctor, even though I have been clean for going on six years now! Must see a pain specialist, who told me nerve blocks are my only option, which is a load of hogwash. But due to the mental health issues, I get treated like a second rate citizen.

Anyway. It's cold here, very cold, so that means I am housebound. If anyone is interested in chatting, feel free!

Thanks

Hi Jules

I have a very close friend who lives in Barrie, not too far from you. Canada is beautiful country!

I've had fibromyalgia for 15+ years. There's a certain chicken soup I made which I found extremely beneficial, I could dig up the recipe if you're interested.
Thanks for this!

Hi there,
Oh wow, no, that's only an hour or so from here up the highway!

I'd be interested in your soup recipe, thank you.

Hey, Jules, and welcome again to Psych Central! Are doctors will to let you try the new meds meant for fibro, such as Lyrica?
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the welcome. I had mentioned it to my MD, and she immediately balked and said I need to see the pain specialist for that. This dr won't even prescribe T2's for anything either, no narcotics or anything addictive passes her prescription pad. I believe she's had an issue in the past.

I managed to get a 30 day supply of Flexeril, which I use every winter to stop the muscle spasms the cold instigates, this year she said due to the history of addiction I can only give you one month. Like hello, same history as last year, when she gave me 5 months worth on repeats!

All this one pain specialist said was a nerve block.. It's not even the FM that is giving me the most grief, I have joint damage in my spine, neck and thoraic, my bone scan lit up like a Xmas tree, showing where the inflammation and damage is, and it's everywhere... But I'm probably going to switch doctors if I dont' get anywhere with her, this is daft. I've been "clean" since June 2008, and now 6 years into sobriety she's saying No to the same med she prescribed me last winter.. gaaaaaaaa

Welcome to PC. (Sorry you need us.)

Have you tried herbal remedies for the inflammation? I am allergic to so many medications, I just try the herbals first now. There are some really good ones, but of course you have to let your MD or pain doc know. (Most medications come from plants originally anyway...)

Its hard when your dealing with multiple issues; the symptoms over cross a lot.
I have FM and tried Lyric and over the years plenty of other medications, non of which helped until this past summer when I started to take savella. It has calmed my nerves, my whole body is just so much less achy. Doesn't mean the pains gone from the degeneration of the spine, arthritis, bulging discs ect. I still have such a variety of good days - bad days. So unpredictable. You just keep trying different things and use the tools you have on a daily basis to manage your life and your symptoms. The nerve cauterization I have had done in the past has helped a lot also.
I went through a lot of doctors until I found a few who get it enough to be of help to me.
I had a horrible experience at one pain clinic and after years decided to try a different one and they were much better.

I have never been an addict and I have had difficulty getting medications out of drs. especially narcotics.

I've made my own willow bark tincture, use ginger root tea (real root) which is currently the strongest spice as an antiflammatory out there that you can get in the local produce dept that is. Tumeric came in second. SJW doesn't help much for me that way, and can't use it now anyway as taking an SSRI. I absolutely hate big pHarma, but when nothing else works and you are getting worse.... what choice do I have.

I get massages nightly from hubby, or it would be a lot worse. And I've been on PC before, I have had psych issues since I was little, as far back as I can recall actually. So here I am again, and omg, I'm struggling... but I'm stubborn, so although I have a whack of crisis numbers and what not, do I call.... nope... should I.... probably... but such is life.

Thanks for the welcome. Been feeling pretty isolated, in so much that my usual circle of friends don't know, and those that do, now treat me differently... have backed off... so I am hoping to make some friends here in PC.
