Hi all. Hoping to gain some support as I am learning to manage my chronic orthopedic pain cased by a car accident without narcotics of any kind. I nearly died in the accident and broke my body in 23 place. Neck 3 places, 7 ribs, left wrist 2 places, left hip 8 places and left leg 3 places. I also have BP and ADHD. My pdoc and I are still trying meds till we get my mental health under some semblance of control. I just thought it was awesome to see a group concerned with pain support on this forum as chronic pain is why I'm in recovery today. I choose not to use also for the clarity of mind that isn't possible for me when using narcotics. I want to try and live a clean life and have faith that I can do this with the help of my insanely good GPdoc. Currently I am 900 mgs of neurontin 4 times daily, Motrin 800 mgs 3 times daily with a lidocaine patch applied to my lower back every 24 hours. So far the pain is tolerable. I'm hoping I can keep this regimen going as long as possible and have been told by my doc that the neurontin has a huge ceiling as far as mgs go. Is this true? Anyone else trying to manage chronic pain without the use of narcotics? Thanks ks for any help and support offered!

I admire your willingness to attain pain management without using addictive drugs. I wish you the best.

Hi deicher82. Welcome to PC!

I have two different sources of chronic pain. One is injuries, broken bones and that sort of thing. The other is from fibro. I will not take narcotics. I can't function in life if I do.

I try to deal with the pain without meds. I will take ibuprofen sometimes, but have to be careful how much I take due to stomach issues.

things that help me...

- wrapping up in a heated throw
- soak in a tub of hot water. I add something called Batherapy to relieve the aches.
- some times gentle stretching like yoga helps. Other days it makes things worse. Go figure!
- cuddling with my animals. Doesn't really do anything for the pain, but takes my mind off it.

And this is probably not all that helpful. There are days I just grit my teeth and try to ride it out.
