I hope it's okay that I also posted this in the fibro check in thread.

Yoga May Benefit Heart as Much as Aerobics | Psych Central News

This story was posted in the current event forum. I heard the tag end of news story about it on TV and wanted to learn more. The article says that yoga can have the same physical benefits of aerobic exercise!

I struggle with the opposing recommendations of rest for CFS and mild exercise for fibro. Combine that with my PCP telling me I need to do aerobics because of my cholesterol level. I'm excited about this. I can do yoga. I enjoy yoga. It's good for my mind as well as my body.

Lizard Lady,
Yes yoga is wonderful exercise. to get the benefits of aerobic exercise, flow yoga is the closest thing to aerobics. At first one learns the postures but eventually they are done at a good pace.

Static or yin yoga is done by holding a posture for several minutes to achieve more flexibility. This is beneficial but does not give the aerobic benefits of flow yoga.

If you want to try yoga, youtube has many teachers. I find Adrienne to be very helpful and laid back. Search for Adrienne Yoga Complete Beginners and she has also many other classes on youtube.

Candc, I've taken yoga classes in the past. I prefer to create my own routine now. I target my poses to the way my body feels that day.

Breckman, there are some good yoga videos available. You could even see what your local library has available or checkout. Or check you local TV listings There are programs available on TV.

Lizard Lady, your yoga class is expanding. That is some kind of high class cat! Looks like a serious yoga practitioner!
