I have been having this for about a month. I was feeling the area the other night and it is very sore and had a knot on it. I massaged the knot and got rid of it but now the whole area hurts again all up and down my hip on one side. I should probably go to my doc and get checked out. Are there muscles in the hip area. Sorry if I am ignorant about this.

Yes, there are muscles in the hip area. I'm sorry you are in pain and I would suggest a trip to the doctor to see if there is something they can do for you.

Hello LucyD: From what you wrote it sounds like you may have an impinged disc & sciatica. I have this. My sciatica extends down the full length of my left leg at this point. But, in the beginning, it was focused in the hip. This is, of course, just a guess on my part. So, yes, please do consult your physician.
Thanks for this!
