I think chronic pain may best describe what I'm going through, although I think somatic disorder is also involved. I frequently get very little sleep, then I obsess during the night and the next day about the lack of sleep and the pain I feel because of the lack of sleep- I doubt other people are as badly affected when they don't get much sleep.

I also get frequent migraines.

I'm seeing a counselor and just mentioned somatic disorder to her today in an email. I'm hoping meditation and biofeedback might help.

Hello Shakespeare: Yes, sleep tends to be a challenge for me as well although I'm an older person & I don't think that's necessarily unusual as one ages. I'm fortunate headaches are not something I have a problem with.

You mentioned meditation & biofeedback. I wondered if you are familiar with Jon Kabat-Zinn's 1990 book: Full Catastrophe Living- Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness? It details the stress reduction program that was (& presumably still is) offered at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. I've just been re-reading this book after having been away from it for a number of years. And, anyway, I've been reminded of what an amazing instructional guide that book still is. If you're not familiar with it, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for this!

I'm 50 and didn't even think about age being a factor.
Thanks for the book suggestion!
I'm always looking for reference material, and you can't have too many books.
