Been dealing with chronic pain for atleast 17 years, then thought it was relieved about a year ago when I got a shot in my hip bursa. I had no pain for about three to four days then it slowly came back. First in lower back across then quads, hamstrings, and hip flexors. Thought weak muscles due to compensation and the hip bursitis. Now pain is never consistent. One day or moment may have in back then legs then upper back then shins so not sure what is going on. My T suggested seeing my primary care doc for testing for fibromyalgia. Even my massage therapist says my inconsistent pain patterns are similar to those she treats but obviously can't make a true diagnosis. Right now walking because sitting hurts my hamstrings. Then other days can't walk because of pain in other areas. Some history severe whiplash from car accident 1997 July and then August 2006 thrown from hospital bedside to floor.
Just asking and seeking for more information on fibromyalgia and chronic pain if it ends up not being that. Feel bad because my 7 year old son wants to be active and I complain of pain a lot and tell him I can't today or something. He in turns "complains " of pain. Not sure to be like me or he has growing pains. Thanks |

(((just2b))) My doctor thought I had fibromyalgia, but changed his mind over time. Now my diagnosis is chronic pain and it is all related to lower back & neck issues. It's been almost 20 years and is also due mainly to a car accident (rear ended). One thing that has helped me is being active and having good core strength. All the doctors I have seen have stressed how important this is. Many of the things I like to do, I have had to cut back on. For many years I was very angry (and that made everything worse) that chronic pain was effecting my quality of life. Slowly I learned I could do the things I truly enjoyed, but I had to cut back on the intensity/time spent on these activities. I guess you could say I've adapted. Sorry that I cannot offering any insight into fibromyalgia.

Hi,
I just found this thread. I have fibro. I have pain in my back, shoulders, legs and especially my derriere. I couldn't sit anymore. I had to stand or lay down on my sides, which were also painful. Finally, my rheumatologist ruled everything else out and came up with my dx. Please go to a rhuemy and tell her what you've told us. She'll test you and see if you have another kind of arthritis, (I have Sjogrens also), or just fibro. I can tell you it just doesn't get better without some medicine from your Dr. and you do have flares from time to time. My Dr. gave me my life back and I do pretty well most of the time. When I'm down, I'm miserable, but when I'm doing pretty well, I really enjoy my life. I wish that for you and your son, too. There is a sub thread in this forum for fibro sufferers and perhaps you'd like to participate in it or at least read it to help you along. I wish you the very best. If I can be of help to you, just send me a pm. Jan

Yes,I agree with everyone...there are so many conditions that cause your symptoms and a rheumatologist will get to the bottom of it. Fibro has other symptoms too- and EVERYONE has different degrees to each one-some more, others less. I have sleep dysfunction, migraines, dry mouth and throat, depression (already had this so made it worse) irritable bowel, reflux, irritable bladder, itching without rashes, rashes without itching, joint pain, muscle pain, fatigue diagnosed in 1995. "These Are My Symptoms" and most are of a minor degree now that I have received medications and treatments over the year. I struggle with the pain, depression and fatigue every day and I now have other medical conditions than cause more of a struggle...therapy, yoga, meditation as well as exercise and medications have helped (I avoid narcotics-it is a quick dead end) Hope this helps
