We received a request from one of our members who is in the military and wanted to show our support of such members dealing with a specific type of PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder) that may be especially triggering to non-military persons. So we setup this forum to allow our military and ex-military members to come and share their experiences and support with one another.
We hope you find this forum helpful in your recovery process. DocJohn

in the old days it was called battle fatigue or shellshock. it wasn't until years after they came home from vietnam that the name PTSD came along.

I am pleasantly surprised and very impressed. It takes courage to open a forum on combat PTSD, since this is one of the last big taboos in our times. I appreciate that new forum very much!
And I hope this new place will bring some relief and comfort to those who suffer. Talking can help a lot - yes, I think so, too. And I assume, there is a lot to be talked about. A lot of feelings that should come out at last. To me, this is a brave step forward. I feel great respect. And I am confident that this site is a good and safe and caring place for any wounded, whatever the case may be. Wishing well, bluna

Thank you thank you thank you ...
It is very hard to find a forum to discuss combat PTSD.... There are a lot of "promising" sites when you google the term, but upon closer look ... hardly any place for vets to express the things that are so troubling. Thanks to Doc John and the entire team at Psych Central Troy

And you'll be more surprised by the stories told here if the vets can get their fingers to tell about what caused their ptsd.
Please, everyone remember, the horrors we will hear about are real life stories, not polished by Hollywood. And some of the most triggering things for combat vets are the simple things of life, not necessarily the blood and gore. Please don't think anything less of any of the warriors who tell their stories. It is hard to do because some of us feel like it is being disloyal in some way ... maybe illogical, but that's the way it is for some. And thanks to all of the warriors AND the warrior families who sometimes suffer as much or even more than the warriors themselves. troy

I am glad to see the formation of this forum. I know that just going through a simple trauma (that others might not have even seen that way (nothing even to do with combat)), it helped having the original PTSD forum to talk it through on. I hope this can be of as much help for our military to feel more free to open up about the situations that caused their PTSD symptoms.
I am happy that one voice requesting this made it happen for everyone who is in need & I am very impressed by you DocJohn for going with a single person's request, knowing that there were probably many more out there with the need that will find their way here by word of mouth. Great Job DocJohn, & my best wishes for the healing this forum can provide for our valuable military people who have suffered more than we can ever imagine. Debbie

BRAVO ZULU! I've been wanting this forum for a couple of years and thought I was being ignored. http://tinyurl.com/64y37j
Now the only thing lacking is ADVERTISING. There is a huge community of veterans who need a safe place to connect. I'll donate money to some GOOGLE ADWORDS advertising this specific forum. |

![]() glad this is here now for all who have served in our military forces in one capacity or another. only two and a half years later (after your first request post) and here we are = ) may this forum be a refuge for our women and men currently serving and all those who've served in the past.

On another site I learned that there is a big need for spouses to be included in these ptsd sites. LOL ... the one where my membership was refused was a spouse's site only ... I even asked the mod why I was rejected and only then found that it was a spouse site.... duh!
So ... spouse remarks and posts welcome. We can probably arrange to open a room and chat at times as well. Thanks for opening the forum, Doc John T.,

I am pleased that this forum is opened now also.
When the PTSD forum was first opened, it was just about "all mine" as I had expressed the need and DocJohn came right through with it... but of course, it didn't suit the bill for me since my disorder is from an industrial accident and not abuse. At the beginning that didn't matter, since no one else really posted there. Fortunately, it is now an active forum, but with those who suffer PTSD from abuse. So while I still don't have a place "just" for me, (and neither do those who have PTSD not from abuse nor military service,) having this forum takes nothing away from that. I do hope spouses and family will join in here, as it will help with trying to understand this beast of a disorder. ![]()

PC is the best site for content, format, and use ... I've been around to a lot of sites, and Doc John has built the best.
I'll put up a note about PC's combat ptsd forum and chat opportunities ... along with the expertise of several experienced ppl ... thanks to you all! T.

Are there any other aviaters in the forums or is there another forum for Helicopter crews? I was a scout in the air cav during the Easter offensive That was in 72. I did a psych eval today and so far i think I am normal.
