A few posts ago, two or three people mentioned POD table problems of one sort or another. I found a possible solution inadvertantly whlie t-shooting a link color problem in Netscape.

Symptom - Netscape browser would not except body tag link color commands.

Problem - POD was generating the following table tag BEFORE the 'html' start tag in the header.

center> table border=0 width="95%"> tr> td bgcolor="#FFFFFF" valign=top> center>

( beginning " < " removed to show tags )

Solution - Found the tag within the 'podvars.pm' following:

sub pod_page_header{
my $pod_ph_text; my $pod_header;
$pod_ph_text="

Under 'Header Configuration'

Simply blanked out tag but left the above command line alone.

ALSO - podvars.pm generates a td, tr, table, body, and html CLOSE tag at the END of the footer ( found just before 'End of configuration' ) which can also misconfigure your tables. Although I resolved and tested the initial link color problem, I have not tested to see if this also resolves your table 'blow out' problem. Please let me know if it does.

PPS This problem may have been inadvertantly caused when I injected the 'Multiple Headers' script into the pod.cgi script as I injected the add-on code within the problem area. I still love the multiple headers. Banner click through ratio sky-rocketed.

The multiple header script only tells POD which file to use.
(It in it self doesn't mess up anything.)

The problem is to make the html-code in the header files and in the podvars.pm
match the table tags etc. from dmoz.

The different pages from dmoz has different tables, and this make this quite difficult.
You should also notice that explorer and netscape interprets the pages differently.
Pages that are visible in explorer, might be invisible with Netscape.

No I don't think its the script. Its more so where I placed it and the line I replaced with it that I was eluding to. I just can't remember if the table misconfiguration was occuring prior to me fiddling around with podvars.pm. I don't think that the script you suggested could cause what happened. I look forward to more additions from you.

Thank you for the compliment on the site. As far as traffic goes I'm still trying to break the 1 million a month mark. Unlike the Yahoos with 20 million a day (go figure). I received some recognition via a couple of avenues. One was by my fed contacts. I volunteer my time with colleges and schools for career days and such representing the FAA. Then a crazy friend of mine (whom I love dearly) and I participated in a major expo in Chicago. Next thing you know we are on WGN News channel 9. Then I actually sponsored an Internet seminar in Chicago a couple of years ago. I had my company's lawfirm send two attorneys to speak on Internet law. I also had two internet companies and myself speaking on different aspects of the Internet. They did it for the exposure (no charge). I charged an $8.00 entrance fee and ran some local radio commercials. That sort of put the site on the map in Chicago. I also took someone's suggestion (can't remember who) and gave the site a theme which happens to be my home city (don't tell anyone I'm from Chicago. They may kick me out of the forum). Then I acted as a consultant on the radio's website that I ran commercials on. Next thing you know I was getting introduced to some interesting circles. All that being said it just means sticking your face in the public eye and toss fliers like bird seed everywhere you frequent. I think your site is fantastic as well. We should start a POD ring. One page that we all link too and are linked from. Everyone copies the page, add it to their site and link to it. Next thing you know you've got a hundred more pages linked to your site in all of the major search engines which boosts your ranking a little. Just a thought. Take care.
