I have a new install of POD v1.78d at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.fishhoo.com/cgi-bin/pod/pod.cgi>http://www.fishhoo.com/cgi-bin/pod/pod.cgi</A>. I'm having a few problems with podvars.pm being effective in pod.cgi.

Here's the part of podvars.pm that concern me.
<font color=red>
## If you want the 'Editor login' box removed or replaced, enter the
## text below. Set to '' for nothing to appear, or just don't set the tag
## to keep the login box (which will redirect the user to the Dmoz server)
## not used ATM
$pod_boxes_editorlogin="";

## If you want the 'Link' box removed or replaced, enter the
## text below. Set to '' for nothing to appear, or just don't set the tag
## to keep the default link box
## not used ATM
$pod_boxes_linklogin="";

## Do you want the 'Become an editor' graphic or would you prefer the
## 'Standard attribution' as set out in the licence. Set the variable
## for the standard attribution - keep it commented out for the
## default operation.
## not used ATM
$pod_boxes_attribution="";
</font color=red>

The link and editor login text are still there and so is the Become an Editor block.

You should also notice that the about dmoz, add URL and help just link back to my header and footer.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Will

Hi Will:

Hate to break this to you but I believe that the comment

## not used ATM

Means 'This feature not used At The Moment' meaning it was placed there for future versions of POD. That caught me off guard too a while back. Take care.

freddy

Well I'll be! Whod a thunk it?

Freddy, looking at your site, you seem to have a handle on this thing. How can I get rid of that whole line. Also, I notice your about dmoz and help actually go somewhere. Mine just display my header and footer. What's up there? And I would like to get rid of the become an editor box. I don't see it on your site. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Will

I remember having the same problem with the help links and others only pulling my header and footer. I'm not sure what the fiz was. I either played with my podvar settings -aka-

$pod_progname="pod.cgi";
$pod_urlpath="/cgi-bin/";
$pod_fullpath="$ENV{'SCRIPT_NAME'}";

OR

I went into the pod.cgi and played with the <a href settings on

about, help, ect

I just can't remeber what did it. Sorry. Also, the 'become an editor' box still shows on the bottom of the results pages and directory links. It's the longer thinner version though.

If I come up with anything that I think might help you I'll post it as a reply to one of your posts.

Also, suggest making a duplicate pod directory file in a different folder to experiment with and trouble shoot problems if you havn't already. Take care Will.

freddy

Upgrading to 1.80 fixed some of the problems but there is still a bug as described in the thread just below this one but the fix described is not acceptable to me. Maybe John will check in soon.

Thanks Freddy,

Will
