Is there a way that the programmers could possibly add an auto save function to the personal message section to allow half typed messages to automatically be saved if the typist inadvertantly clicks something that directs away from the message? PLEEEEESE!!! I have over the past three days lost 8 messages after hours of construction!! i am not sure if it is because i use a talk typer or if others find this happens to them too, it is so frustrating to get most of the way through dictating a message only loose it, to dictate it again only to loose it again and again!!!!

That would be frustrating.
Could you construct your PM in Word, then do a copy & paste when you're finished? |

I used to lose unfinished posts all the time with my old Netscape 4.5. The Firefox 2 I use now is much, much better that way. A few times I've even lost power, gotten back online hours later -- and found my unfinished post waiting for me. I figure that Firefox must cache posts on the hard drive even while I'm working on them. I know it does offer an "undo" function.
When something out of the ordinary is happening such as an iffy connection or an approaching storm (or I can tell I'm about to nod off), I regularly copy-paste whatever I'm working on to Windows Notepad and save it as something easy to remember -- such as "temp.txt" |

That's a great idea, I'll submit it to the developers for a possible future release. In the meantime, it's a good idea to follow others' suggestions about composing your posts offline in a word processing program, then copy and paste the final version over to the forums. That will ensure you don't have a problem with losing your post or PM.

Oh wonderful, I have been struggling with this same problem for years now. Somehow, I would spend hours typing in a PM, or even a post sometimes (those long novels I write) & somehow, my Windows has this cursor problem & it floats to who knows where if I stop typing.....I would end up hitting the backspace to fix a typo & poof, no idea were my cursor was, but I completely loose everything do to the fact that I could't save it while constructing the PM/post....etc.
I have started using just the notepad to put together my long posts/PM's when I know it's going to take me a very long time to put the message together, but being able to save any length would really help with the stupid cursor problem I have. Thank heavens for programmers.....they really can do anything, but it depends on how much work it actually takes. I am sure there is a subroutine or function that already exists somewhere they can borrow from. Thanks for looking into it Doc John

If you are not using the shortcuts (colon + right parenthesis for a smile, for example), and if you are opening the page showing 'more smilies', you can open the smilies in another tab or window, so you don't have to navigate away from the page you are on.

For me, if I click on the [More] under the 15 basic smilies they always open in a new window -- a little one up at the top left that I can maximize if I want to see more smilies at once. Does it happen differently with other browsers?

I keep the "Remember me" box (or whatever it's called) checked so if I ever do get logged out, I seem to get logged back in seamlessly.

the more smiles do open in a new tab, but over the message so i can not see if it adds the smile i choose, sometimes it does sometimes it does not so i have to re open the more smiles and try again, sometimes it puts two in when i only wanted one and often puts them in the wrong place! it is when i try to 'sort' them out or delete any extras that my message gets deleted too!! like i origionally said it could be due to the fact i use a talk typer, which does not always do/type what i say!!!
I too have checked the remember me box but i do not usually get logged off, just directed to a different page on psych central! |

For folks who do not want to click the "remember me" box when logging in so they won't get logged out, if you construct your post/pm on your computer in any kind of word application, you can then copy and paste it into PC so that way you do not loose what you were working on. From there, you can insert any smilies you wish to.
I think working with a voice command program does kind of muck up the works a bit. I hope you can find your way around it somehow yellowted. I wish I had answers for, but I don't ![]() |
